Great gun, but what to do with the shell lifter?

Did weak hand quad loads and my thumb and nail got cut up bad. Then did strong hand load 2's. Not as bad, but thumb still got caught a few times. Gloves weren't much help either due to snagging.

I heard about getting lifter welded, but are there any other quick MacGyver type mods out there that could help for the time being?

Thanks.

Filed down the edges to round it out a bit. A little bit better then the pointy 2 prong fork Remington used as a shell lifter.

Contact user RedTipBullet, he might have one available.

Thanks, but I'm already waiting for C-Rums to take care of my carrier. Ended up buying a carrier from Remington ($20) and had them ship it to C-Rums directly.

Hhhhmm, those load2 shell carriers look tempting....

- no stop it, you spent enough already
- but I wants it
- no! no!

doesn't have to be done by c-rums. if you have a buddy that is a decent welder he can do it for you. and yes the load 2 system is good except for when you bump your belt against something and all your shells fall off the belt and onto the ground.

I had a "welded up" lifter installed here in Texas. Remington is putting them into their latest model of the VMT. They might sell you one.

I got mine as part of a series of mods but just installing the lifter isn't a big deal but well worth the effort. Your thumbs will love you.

Edit: I just remembered that a friend got one in Canada somewhere. I'll ask him where and post here.

Casey at TacOrd did up a welded lifter for my VersaMax after Jeff at CRums refused to ship to Canada. Casey did a wicked job. Didn't even need to send him one. Did one up fresh and shipped it out to me. Apparently you can also use the Taran Tactical Benelli M2 lifter. A guy I shoot with told me they are interchangeable but I have not tried it. Call Casey.

Taran lifter is not optimal for the Versamax.
Too short for the 3.5" loading port, especially if you open it up.

Its good for the M2, for which it was designed.

What did the welded lifter run ya? I am trying To order the tac-competition model from gravel agency.....but if it is cheaper to get it from tac-ord I'll go Canadian

The friend I thought bought one in Canada actually welded up his own. Has anyone tried Remington? The extended lifter is standard on their new Competition model which also has the port opened and smoothed out. The only other thing I had done was getting the bolt lightened. Supposedly that does little but it's cool looking.

I just talked to the dudes at Taran Tactical in SoCal......they ship their version of the M2 lifter (fits versamax) to canada a lot. Its about 80 usd + shipping, the TacOrd crew said it is about 75 for them to weld up your lifter. I went with the taran tactical one and picked up a jumbo safety as well. already did the drill and tap bolt release.

I did try gravel agency as well....they are seeing if they can import the competition lifter......but it could be 4-8 weeks before they get them.....if they can get them. Ill keep you posted.

If I remember, the TacOrd lifter was something like $80 to my door. That was with Casey supplying a new lifter. Mine was the first one he did. Casey even bought a Versamax to experiment on to make sure that he got it right and it wouldn't create any failure to feeds. I have shot it fast, sideways, upside down, and she always goes boom. I have feed multiple different rounds and even mixed loads to try to create a problem and it eats everything except my thumb. I also cut about half of the magazine spring off after blocking the tube. (mine came un-blocked...such a tease) I plugged it at 5.9 of 3" (mines a tactical, 3" designated chamber) so it fits 6 2 3/4") Very happy with it. Now if I could just find someone to open up the feed port. Kinda pisses me off that now Remington is releasing the competition, except it is that hideous green.
