Time for a K98k picture thread! Perhaps the ULTIMATE CGN K98k picture #### post (?)

The nazi style stamps starting being used in 1937, change over was not complete until 1939. There are no known weimar proofed rifle post 39.
I think it was just one of those things that got added in slowly. Like a lot of rifle changes. Guns with serials very close can be quite different.

Steve yours is 100%, and fantastic!

Claven think you'd better find a singer 1911 to get that rifle from him!

Thanks guys, I'm glad the photos are being enjoyed and thanks again to everyone else showing some really fantastic K98k's on this website. This rifle really means a lot to me, although Claven may offer me a really nice 1911 at some point I must admit I could not bring myself to part with this one. It came from a really good friend and pending nothing terrible happens to me it will be in my safe for a very long time until I'm old enough I feel it's time to pass onto the next generation of collectors :) ;)

Where is Joe N ? Joe: don't hold out on us buddy, I know you have some really great stuff you have shown us before!!! If Joe and Andrew combined collections, it would take the combined efforts of everyone else on CGN to match what they have, LOL!

So, are you going to show us your time machine yet ? :D

I love the walnut on that byf and it is something I would not expect after the switch to laminate stocks. Could the walnut blank be what was left from the Portuguese contract in 1941 ?

Thanks Nabs.

It's possible it was blank left over from the Port contract but as Claven2 said, walnut was used in production right up to the bitter end, although the quality of it often suffered later on. Basically, due to shortages, they used what ever they could get at the time. Besides the typical white glue, red glue, and walnut, MO (and maybe others?) also used elm sporadically in production. I believe the elm stocks start showing up in 43 from what I've seen. A byf in elm is high on my want list but they don't come up for sale often and usually command TOP dollar.

I might have to put some overtime in on my time machine to find one although its getting pretty worn out. It worked pretty hard to get the next one I have coming.
