Well guys, looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel.......Cabelas Canada now has Varget and IMR4064 back in stock at their warehouse.....They received 360 pounds of IMR4064 and 616 pounds of Varget as of yesterday...

I believe they will transfer the stuff to the Saskatoon and Edmonton stores at no charge to the customer....

I placed my order today...! :D

OK none in store but I got two pounds through the in store pickup service. When I asked at the gun desk there was 600 lbs showing in stock at the Winnipeg distribution centre. By the time we walked over to the ISPU desk to put my money down there was 520 lbs available. If you live near a Cabelas, give the in store desk a ring soon! Free shipping to any Cabelas in Canada! $76 taxes in for two pounds.

Great Crouton: Why not place your order with the Edmonton store via phone using your credit card and just drive up there and pick up your order...? Inter-store shipments are free and you would avoid the hazmat fee.....

Kennymo; I placed my order yesterday afternoon, and when I did there was 616 pounds of Varget......by the time you got your order in, stock was down by 100 pounds in about 3 hours.....

Rojo, you must have got in good and early, sales staff told me the full shipment was 650 lbs. I just couldn't believe that 80 lbs could vanish in less than five minutes. The staff member I dealt with didn't know it was in and made some remark about not believing Internet rumours. He ended up ordering a couple pounds for himself while they processed my order! Thanks for the heads up!

I just did my research......I monitored Cabela's Winnipeg website....it said on Thursday afternoon that Varget and IMR4064 were in stock, so I called with the catalog numbers and the lady told me they had 616 of Varget and 360 of IMR4064......simple as that.....

Was told by someone with a cabelas shirt on behind the gun counter that they can not order anything in for a person. If its not in the store right then you are sol. Lazy employee? Maybe.

Do you still have to fill out the form to buy gunpowder?

I bought primers there once and had to fill out a form with all my info (drivers license #, name, address, pal#.) I would assume their policy hasnt changed. They also kept this info on a shelf under the till. That to me isnt keeping my info private. There are plenty of other stores around that dont require this.

It is law under the explosives act that that information is recorded. If other retailers choose to not record this info(and the form only asks for the minimum info under the act) then they face stiff penalties/charges. I very much doubt any major retailer isn't following this law.

Holy b:

How much are your taxes? Am I the only one that thinks that is extortionate? Maybe they are trying to compete with Bass Pro prices?

That is an NRCAN requirement under the explosives act, so I would guess it hasn't gone anywhere. Note that it is ONLY for powder, nothing else. If they are trying to get your info for primers they are making up their own rules.

It was my impression that it wasn't federal law, but instead a provincial law FOR ONTARIO ONLY. I may be mistaken though.

That was for ammo, not powder and I believe it has been lifted in the last year or so.

If I was desperate, I would likely consider it but driving 600 Kms round trip for a few pounds of powder isn't worth it IMO. It comes up from time to tome here in town more frequently these days. Just this weekend I found a few pounds of 3031 at TSE. And very recently primers have been popping up too. Have found 3000 small pistol and small rifle primers to boot.

I phoned and ordered 2 pounds this morning and they still had 540 pounds of it, but they had 28 orders to fill so who knows how much that is.

Mine came out to 74.50 delivered to the new store here

Cheaper than the 40$/lb I paid for Varget at Bass Pro here in Calgary. We don't have a Cabellas.

Anybody wanting Varget and living near a Cabellas should jump on this. I'm sure we'll have people complain soon after it's sold out though and had the option to buy it.

Powder and primers seem to be more common these days though.

13% Thanks NDP. They're doing their best to bankrupt our province and tax the #%^# out of us while they do it. Still the price is a touch high, but cheaper than paying somebody else to ship it to me.

My theory with Cabelas pricing is that they look to see what others are selling it for online and add slightly less than the shipping cost.
