Since Epoxy7 showned is restricted AR-10, it got me seriously thinking of getting my RPAL ( after being back from Europe, winter is a good time, much is quiet)...
I was impress by the capability to shoot sub .5 MOA with a semi 308, range only, OK, that's fair considering that no NR 308 will give me sub .5 MOA... Tiny groups are a powerfull drug, i am slowly falling to the dark side... JP.

Well I guess my latest 2-point infraction for responding to your post in the ATRS thread weren't wasted.

Glad to see that you might be getting your RPAL soon. It certainly isn't a dark side either, although that's what the Libs and Dippers want you to believe!!

It was deleted from the thread, so no point in looking.

The important point here - the more Canadian who have PAL and RPALs the better, no matter how you dislike the current laws curtailing the use of our ARs and handguns. If the amount of RPAL holder would quadruple over the next two years, then again and again...

The AR10 is my kryptonite.

Just do your research first with the AR10 it's a bit different than the AR15 in that they aren't all compatible.

Also make sure to get one with a SS match barrel. There are a lot more patrol carbine rifles hitting the market these days with CL barrels. Direct impingement only if you're going for ultimate accuracy. Yes HK MR308 etc has good accuracy reports but ultimately direct impingement is what you want. Also Sig 716 is CL with piston system.

Suitable options:

KAC, LMT mws (with SS barrel), Armalite AR10 target, SASS or one of the rare DND versions, Noveske, DPMS LR308 target. There are probably others as well but those are the most common.

Note: Remington R25 is a camo DPMS with regular barrel. Best bargain out there, but you may have to change the trigger and the barrel. So probably not worth it unless you can find everything on the EE (There was a cheap DPMS target barrel there for a bit).

Also note that there are two main mag types. The original AR10 mag commonly referred to as the SR25 type is now the standard. The Armalite AR10 uses a mag based off the M14 mag and you can actually modify M14 mags to work (Noveske also uses this type). This was due to the assault rifle ban in the US a few years back. Armalite will be introducing a new version that takes the original mags but it isn't in Canada yet. Avoid the Rock River arms one as it uses FN FAL mags.

If Wolverine gets those AR10 target rifles back in for 2K then that is the accuracy/value rifle. Previously they were 3K when I bought my DPMS.

The AR10 is my favourite rifle to shoot. There is something about them. It's much more than just a bigger AR15.

Epoxy7... Thanks.... Might as well go all the way if i have a rifle that will be used at the range only, you seem to have a deep knowledge of those rifles, will surely ask some questions along the way... JP.

Is this one of the contender if yes what else would you need to add for total accuracy.... JP.

You can shoot/sight in a strangers bolt action for the first time and clover leaf it at 200yards...

Why are you asking for advice?

When i am back from Europe, i decided to go and get my RPAL to be able to buy a AR style rifle ( 308 restricted)... Actually have no experience in the AR style of rifle, if it shoot, no worry, here i will shoot it good but for starter, the knowledgables members here are a great asset to make sure to buy the most accurate AR off the bat... There is nothing to be ashame to ask to the ones who know... JP.

The AR10A NM is certainly a fine choice.

I wouldn't choose that particular platform as I dislike the standard, fixed A2 stocks. The concept of not being able to adjust the LoP and cheek rest height just doesn't sit well with me. This should ring a bell to you w/ both your Nemesis and the MacMillan stock you have on the build Sean put together for you.

I also wouldn't have a need for those type of iron sights, but again that's a preference. Will you even be using iron sight at all is what I'm getting at.

It's too bad that you don't already have your RPAL as there's an SR-25 ECR that's been sitting in the EE for while.

On that note - why wait until you are back from Europe (in the spring?) to apply for your RPAL when you know that by the time you get all of the paperwork to your local SQ office for them to send it off, you're months before getting it back. Get all of your stuff ready this week and send it off right away. No need to wait..

Have to take the course... JP.

Have to take the course... JP.

Nope - who told you that??

You can challenge both exams w/o taking the course. You've been around firearms for a long time now, so you have I'm sure, a solid understanding of firearm safety and handling so passing the practical test will be a extremely easy.

Download the book online, give it read and challenge the exams. If you want to do it in the Gatineau-Ottawa area, let me know and I'll give you the name of the guy who's accredited by the CFC to administer them. You'll be in and out in less than 30-45mins.
