Hi, now that SR22 is in, i decided i will opt for a classic build.
Got my Armalite A2 grip and flashider in, will get barrel cut and threaded a few inches shorter.
Also looking for milspec adjustable buttstock, claasic one, would of loved to have a decent logo on it like armalite or colt.

Now im shopping for a shorty armalite handguard classic style, delta ring and triangular handguard cap.
I pretty much sourced the parts and that is going fine. Where i am having planning issues has to do with the receivers jacked rail height. I have a 20 inch armalite so i measured for reference. The sr22 rail is about 5/8" higher from center of barrel to top of rail than my armalite ar15. In front of my handguard i need to find a railed gas block so i can bolt on a detachable traingular front sight post. I do not know which ones to match together to get propper height, and do not feel like ordering a few 50$ parts to mix and match and end up just using 1/3 of them.

Anyone been thru this build before can give me a hand?

Pretty sure cutting down and threading what is already a 16" barrel is a no no, according to our laws.

Sorry to crush your plans. Lol although dlask sells some legal 12", 10", and 8" barrels.

Why targetguy?
How would my barrel be cut.recrown.threaded at 12" be different than a dlask 12"?
Anyways the smith must have legal info on this before doing the work, i will be dealer with a legit buisness.
I do have a 12" mcgowen coming in, but it's .920" in diameter, making it hard to be compatible with railed gas blocks. I guess it will be used in my regular 10/22 instead, turn it in some kind of VLEH build

Headamage, my 20" armalite is a national match. Is free floated underneath the classic plastic handguard. Much too long for my build. I want to put 6" plastic handguards

A cut down barrel is different than a manufactured barrel. Don't look for logic, this is how the law is written.
According to the Criminal Code, a prohibited firearm is:
a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,
is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

Alright i'm off a bumpy start then. I want a 12", but .750" in dia not .920
I was under the impression that asmlong asni was over 26" overall i was golden, hence making the dlask 8" illegal in this build

That's where you went wrong - you used perfectly reasonable common sense. The lawmakers used flagrant emotions. You can cut a barrel as short as 457 mm or 17.99". If it is shorter than that from the factory it is still legal but if you shorten it further its prohib. But if a manufacturer makes a new barrel and finishes it shorter than 457 mm it is legal to install on any firearm. With rimfire rifles the only thing required to remain non restricted is 660 mm or 26" OAL. Dlask has offered 12.5" x .750" barrels in the past and surely would make you one at your request. Your major problem that you've already found is the ridiculously tall rail. There's no reason for it but a 1.5" standard height rear sight will be way too high for an AR a-frame front sight. Are you building a Vietnam era M4? Like the one Will Hayden is always playing with on Sons Of Guns? Like the one I drool over like a hot stripper? Man I love that rifle :)

Exactly common sense is nonsense with these laws!!
I am usually pretty much informed, but just hit a wall here.
So build is now modified, going midlenght carbine with 9" handguard instead of 6".
Barrel will be threaded period, no changes in lenght.

I should of mentionned i'm an 80's guy lol ;)
So vietnam AR's will be out of this build, more like an 80's A2 build. An XM117 would be sweet, but i would keep this for 5.56mm if ever i should build one one day.

So yeah going 9 inches now, same handguard cap, same delta ring setup.
I only need propper details as to which railed gas block and which removable triangular front sight post is good for my setup.
At cottage right now, once i get home i could measure ar front sight post, from center of barrel to top of sight, and add 5/8" to that measure.
Maybe then someone could give me some confirmation with their parts in hand, with any luck

I used a Nordic Stock(pre SR22) and the Dlask barrel 12".... http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/407394-My-AR22-Project-finally-Complete-Updated-photos?p=3820303&viewfull=1#post3820303

I would have preferred this barrel though from Brownells, so I could fit a regular A2 sight on but it was out of budget.

Hopefully someone will be along soon but I've seen guys with standard AR quad rails on SR22s use a spacer to mount a railed front sight to match up with the rear. I think I've seen 5/8" spacers but a 1/2" just might work. If you hit up eBay you could grab a couple for under $20 and be set.

Thanks for sharing ronkytonk
This shows my that my 12" bull barrel coming in will have it's place
Is that a 9" handguard you got on there or a 6"?
How are sights lining up, front sight being 5/8" lower did you have enough adjustment in rear and front to compensate?

Just found what i needed, cannot post link as its from midway usa, off to read import rules and see if they actually ship here.
Basicly, it's a front sight block, made by nordic ( which is the sr22 stock creator), for .920 barrels, that is designed to go with their nordic stock so that ar sights can match from front to rear. A real nice find.

It's a 6" no taper hand guard, again the budget said basic.
I had to almost top out the back sight but I was hitting a resetting target with accuracy at 75yrds.
I am subscribing to this thread to see your finished product.

I know the one, fits the barrel with rail on top, almost bought it but it was a me being cheap again...lol

Cool, this will be a slow project, as i am taking the time and money (hopefully not too much money) to try to get this right.

So i will be using my new barrel, mcgowen .920 SS threaded barrel
Now if someone can find me this : Nordic Components AR22 Front Sight Block
This is the solution to my build. Once i get a hold of this block, i will buy armalite 6" delta handguard kit.
Then sight will be easy to source as i will have nothing funky to figure out.

I look forward to this build. I wanted to make an SR-22 into a C-8 looking rifle. I went in a different direction, but the urge is still there. Please keep us posted on the parts list & build.
