My recoil spring retainer disappeared on me, no idea where it went, and I've got no chance of finding it again. Does anyone have any tips for replacing one of these things? Is it possible to DIY something quick and easy, or do I need to buy a new one? And can anyone point me to where I can buy one if this is the case?

Although the retainer is still there on my latest Chinese SKS, it is galled out and would let go randomly. Rapid disassembly would occur at a speed I just couldn't keep up with. I went to the garage and grabbed a small snap ring that fits nice on the guide rod. I keep a bunch of those small kits of parts from Princess Auto around for just such adventures, maybe you could rig something like that up? Maybe a small washer with a snap ring to hold it in place? Marstar might have the part too.
 
That sounds like it might work, unfortunately I'm not familiar with what a snap ring is. Is it something I could go buy at any hardware store? I'll definitely give the idea a go once I figure it out.

As for Marstar, no one seems to be on the other end of the line, despite my efforts.

Thanks for the suggestions supernova, I really appreciate it. Hopefully I'll be able to get out and shoot the thing soon.
