Got a question for yea guys. Ever since my CZ Redhead has been new, the shells rattle inside the chamber. I've been using it for 3 hunting seasons now like that and finally someone says to me the other day that I have a "serious issue with that gun." Just wondering if anyone else can here their shells rattle in the chamber of their over/unders or side x side shotguns of any make or model. Its a 3" chamber and I've been using 2 3/4" shells all this time so I'm unsure if the smaller lenght of shells would cause the rattling. The rattling can be heard from side to side and front to back movement. I've tried both barrels separately with a round in the chamber and they both do it.

Hopefully this gun isn't going to explode in my face ;)

If the shells are rattling on front to back movement, it sounds like there is too much space/play between the chamber face and the face of the action. The lip of the shell has to sit flush in the groove of the chamber face. If it is seated properly, there should be no movement back and forth with the actioin closed. It should probably be looked at. Just curious--what gauge is it and does it do it with different brands of shells.

This is an over/under so no bolt ;)
Double guns have a locking bolt such as the Browning underbolt, the Beretta twin side locking bolt or the Greener style cross bolt, so what WH was saying is the action locking up tight. It seems that the chamber is oversize and it would be a good idea to get it checked out to make sure there are no safety issues but since you have used it this way for 3 years you may be OK.

Your gun may have generous chamber specs. Inspection of fired hulls will tell the tale. Backed out primers or very slight firing pin indents are a sign of head space or chamber issues. Case heads that are distorted compared to fired rounds are another. My doubles do the same thing if I shake them when loaded. No worries unless one of the alert signs are observed.

Without using steel headspace gauges you will not know if it is a headspace problem. Most likely it is simply small dimension shells in a chamber within tolerances...

Unless the shells rupture on firing you don't really have a problem. Are you doing some kind of a weird dance shaking your loaded shotgun side to side and forwards and back?

Ahhh so that's what he ment. Thanks for the clarification.

Hey thanks for the reply. When I first got the gun, the shells rattled in the chamber. I tested fired it and saw no issues with the spent cases so I just kept using the gun. I don't know if rattling shells is an issue or not, and since someone has told me that it is an issue, and its someone I can't take their word for it. I decided to find out if other double shotguns do it too. Since this is the only shotgun I own, I have to ask others if theirs does the same. I should probably buy more guns if I want to be a Canadian Gun Nut

Thanks again.
