As much as I like to support our own retailers I find myself buying more and more from down south. The prices in some cases just can't be beat, especially when even after the shipping, handling and possible duty some items still manage to cost significantly less than buying from the local gun shop. That right there tells you how bad our taxation is! For casting supplies other than lead I go to FSReloading or Titan.

have you casted before or do you just need a mold?
castboolits is a great place with group buys for mihec and NOE molds, plus others. if you want inexpensive stuff titan reloading sells lee stuff. i have my 3rd order in the last month coming. 20lb pot and a 50 cal mold.

No I have never done any casting. Totally new at this. But I've been watching everything on YouTube. One thing I've read and don't know if correct or not, is undersized bullets will cause leading. Like some of Lee's dies cast .457 bullets. Do over sized bullets need to be resized, such as Lee's .459 bullets ? What do WW go for at most Tire shops ? I don't think they give them away any more.

you generally want .001 or .002 oversize of what your bore slugs, undersized usually cause issues, but i suppose it's possible they may not. i have a 110 gr mold i got for my 38/357 mag that i size to .357" that i decided to try in my 9mm glock. they print awesome, super clean holes. but i think i will size them down to .356 and see how the barrel is. i only shot 50 rounds and saw no leading, but i'm worried i might get some at .356.

eg my 600gr mold for my 500 mag casts bullets at .503-4 i have a bullet sizer/luber that lubes them and sizes them down to .501.
if you don't want to spend the extra money on a sizer/luber you can use lee liquid alox and tumble lube them a few times and run them through a $20 lee sizer, then lube once more.

I lube either type with liquid alox, I just make sure I have a heavier coat on non micro groove bullets. Lately I have been using dralox from dragon bullet lube, bought a 4l jug so the amount I use is of no concern. When lubing non microgroove bullets I lube, let dry, then lube again to get the heavier coat. Only way to tell forsure is to make a batch, test them while watching for leading! The lee push through sizers work, but lube BEFORE sizing, if you think scrubbing a leaded bore is a pain.....
Do the Lee sizers only size too .457 ? I thought they should size to .458 or .459 . Don't know but, 457 seems under sized and I thought that lead to problems like leading. I think all Lee bullets for the 45-70 are sized .457 in the lighter weights, which is what I'm after.

odd, they don't have the two other sizes, i just checked lyman's website and they sell .457, .458, 459 lube/sizer dies.

Your right. I should have slugged my bore already. What's the proper way to do that ? I've heard that you just tap a egg shaped sinker into the muzzle just enough to imprint the lead. Another way was to push it all the way through from the breach with a wooden dowel.
I just got about 100# or 5 gal. pail of WW for $30 from a local Tire Shop. Maybe a bit much but that will last me a Loooooong time. Mostly lead, not much zinc or steel. Where does one get antimony from. I also have about 10# pure lead that needs to be mixed. I need to find a source of tin that can be measured too.
WSS in Edmonton South has the Lyman Master Caster Kit on the shelf for $500. They have casting eqmt fairly regularly but if you have to buy mailorder from them it's really not worth the effort. WSS does not do mailorder competently.
I cast quite a lot. 40 molds, 4 lubesizers, 2 pots, etc. Two thirds of my gear came from US suppliers and the rest came from ebay and Canadian soures. The biggest issue lately is availability. Buy it wherever you can find it.
If you can find some linotype, there is a significant amount of tin and antimony in there that you can alloy into your wheel weights.
