first of all, please forgive my lack of proper terminology, and my lack of seasoned firearm enthusiast dialect. I am brand new to powder burners, still working on my pal.

in the context of HD shotguns, what is everybody's opinions on:

12.5" barrels
12 vs 20ga
semi-auto vs pump

also, whats everybody's thoughts on a .22 semi-auto with a hi-cap mag for HD, compared to a shotgun?

oh gosh, another ? Lol well what ever ! IM IN lol

18-20" 12 ga shotgun. Wont spatter your entire room. Usually just the sound of a shotgun racking would send most people the other way.

As for the 22, why bother ? tacticool up an sks have something with a little power behind it if your going to bring it out you better bring the bigger gun.

side question why do you need a firearm for HD ? A lot of break ins? Bad neighborhood ? Just remember fire arms are something criminals want. If you are that worried about people breaking into your house. Id have a good safe, for guns and personal possessions.

Remember the laws, you will be charged for shooting someone... Even if they broke into your house. You cant raise the game. They have a knife you have a gun and you blast them... Your going to have to get a good layer...

In the country where animals and wild things are about it makes sence to arm yourselfs. In the city I think using a firearm for home defence can land you in more trouble... Get some dog/bear spray if your that worried... Will mess everything up in your house and make you gag also but wont kill someone... Or a small bat ? Small machete or axe? I have expensive swords. Sharp and real. Use one to hack a few things in half out of boredom lol. Pretty sure if I had a guy running at me with a sword id take off also !! lol

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for Bill C-26, Defense of property and persons. We should be writing our local MP's to support it. Then we can actually start talking about legal home Defense in threads.

sorry, im sure in the 1000 years of firearm history, the topic of hd has come up at least a couple dozen times. for those willing to help a newbie out, its greatly appreciated. for those who would prefer to skip to a fresher-topicced thread, totally understandable.

so 12.5 is too short? what size would the spread be say 20 feet out? if im ever in a situation where i am willing to shoot at somebody and deal with the legal consequences after, damage to my drywall or television is the least of my concerns.

the value i saw in the 22 was the hi-cap mags available. plus the ability to vary the amount of damage. nobody wants to get shot a second time.

the reason i am a hd enthusiast, is because i receive multiple threats annually. nothing has ever materialized. i have all the usual suspects... bear spray, baseball bat, battle axe, machete, etc. and realistically i would most likely investigate any bumps in the night with bear spray and a bat.. even if i had firearms in the house. that way everybody wakes up in the morning, and it's a lot easier to explain to a judge.

but that being said... im willing to waste a few hundred on an HD shotgun anyway....

we all know the zombie apocolypse aint commin... but that doesnt stop thousands from being ready.

dumptruck, i think you mean HD is not a legal reason to USE a firearm in canada, and in MOST cases that is accurate.

people own war rifles not for war but because they like them. people own assault rifles not for assaults, but simply because they like them. i am talking about owning an HD firearm not for HD, but simply because i like them.

and i never specified that this is for my CANADIAN home. i could be planning to export this to my home in the caribbean.

i would be very happy to partake in a discussion about the legalities of owning a firearm for hd in canada, in a thread about that topic.

We can't own assault rifles in Canada, assault rifles have select fire or full auto capabilities. We own neutered semi auto versions known as black rifles.

thats what i thought, but i dont like to assume when asking is so easy.

as per fudd philosophy, what's wrong with rapid firing?

i prefer wood stocks, and don't see the point of black rifles. am i a young fudd in the making?

It's a generalization that requires one to fit numerous parts of the criteria. I know some 70 year old shooters that don't own black rifles but don't fit the bill because there just good guys that like to go shooting and don't push themselves or there opinions on people.
