Going for my RPAL on Monday, since 2 days, iv'e being on a shopping, infos mode, anyone outhere own a Desert Egle 44 mag, reliable, accurate, non recomended, that is the kinkd of infos, i am looking for... JP.

Not recommended for first restrict handgun, had one, nice real heavy gun and you know you are shooting 44 magnum, fun to shoot, did not keep it because I prefer a 44 magnum in revolver like my S&W629. if you want a DE44 because it's fun looking in the movie, well satisfy yourself, but movies are movies.....

for a first restrict :
- caliber you are looking, then after in what Platform you want it.
- budget for ammo
- full metal/polymer
- Beretta 92fs / CZ Shadow / Glock / 1911 / M&P / Jéricho 941 / so much choices out there

I dont really care for looks, i always privilege accuracy and reliability and performance before cosmetic looks, those i leave to miss caramel... JP.

accuracy is in your hand, reliability .....guns are guns... many aspects that can interfer with reliability, performance ....what performance you are looking for ??

Nemesis is pure performance, first thing that come to mind, but it is ugly, but irrelevant... JP.

I had a .44 mag MK VII in bright nickel finish and unless you have big hands, I suggest you go for a 629 or a redhawk. But, if you decide to go with the desert eagle, get a flashy one like I did...

A buddy of mine owned the 50 Desert Eagle. Cool gun everyone wants to say they shot. You shoot it a few times and the novelty wears off. Nice looking gun, heavy and balance is forward. But price of ammo, and the novelty wearing off are minuses. It's a big piece of machinery. Great conversation starter.

If you've always wanted the Desert Eagle then go for it. But... there are better pistols for actual range use.

That novelty thing, i thought about it, definitivly not what is important for me, but being very new at the handgun game, i have many questions... JP.

I had the pleasure of owning/shooting a DE in .44 Mag for about two years. It was an older IWI gun, built in 94, in very good condition.

When I purchased it, I gave it a good cleaning and lube. Took it to the range and it fired flawlessly. I used Winchester white box .44 ammo, 240 gr soft tip jacketed. I never had a FTF/FTE.

Due to the weight of the gun and the gas system, I found it an easy gun to control. Years ago I owned a S&W 629 with a 6.5" barrel and I recall that gun being more 'violent' and 'severe' to shoot when compared to the DE.

My DE had an adjustable rear sight. Off a rest, I could hit a 12" steel gong on a regular basis at 100 yds., by adjusting the rear sight a tad. At 15-25 yds I'd adjust the rear and using a two hand, free stance, the gun would group very well if I did my part. The DE .44 is a very accurate gun, I'm fairly sure the trigger in mine was stock and it was very light/crisp. I DE .44 about the same to control as some of my .45 ACP pistols (Sig 220, H&K USP).

I found the gun a 'hoot' to shoot, providing some great entertainment, but yet it is still an accurate, manageable pistol.

Unless you reload, ammo can become expensive. Depending on the day, I could easily go through 2-3 boxes of .44 in no time! However, it's a 'bargain' to shoot when compared to the .50.

I'm not sure I'd begin with a DE .44. I'd tend to suggest starting with a good quality, reliable 9 mm, so you can practice, practice and practice some more to hone your pistol shooting skills.
IMHO, one can't go wrong with the likes of a Sig P226, or a Glock G17. Bulk 9 mm ammo costs much less, so you will get to practice a lot more. After shooting hundreds/thousands of 9 mm, you will become more familiar with proper grip placement, controll of the gun and developing your target/sight placement, etc., etc.
After this, transitioning to larger calibers is a lot easier to do.
Perhaps put the DE on your "want to buy" list.

That's my 2 Cents!!

I shot more than 1,500 rounds of 44 Mag trought my Desert Eagle then the novelty wore off. Even if you reaload, it's still expensive to shoot and you need to police your brass or else it will vaporise. It's accurate but it's not the most reliable pistol on earth. Some have superb trigger but mine is quite awfull. Doesn't matter if it's your first pistol, you'll end up buying another firearm sooner or later.

If i am not sure about which of 3 is the one to get, i will buy the 3, try them out and keep the one suit me the best, this is the way i solve a problem, so there is no problem... JP.

At our range newbies show up and we let them shoot whatever we have on the line. We encourage new people to shoot. Join a club and go out there. Maybe somebody will take you under their wing for a bit.
