Kel tec Sub 2000 Problem

So I took the small spring and plastic pin out of the safety itself in an act of desperation. Put it all back together and the safety no longer drifts while firing. I am still getting the odd FTE and always on the last round.

I have read this goes away with use. Hope this fix works for the other new owners out there.

All I know is that after 500 rounds, I was still getting the odd FTE... and I don't think any number of FTEs is acceptable. The safety issue was the straw that broke the camel's back... I actually thought I was one of the "lucky ones", but no. Talk about embarassing at the rifle range when I had to push the safety button back in after every 2 to 3 shots!! The other issue that mine has are these strange vertical striations (deep gouges) and what looks like pitting/erosion all along the lower portion of the barrel, mainly through the lands. It was either due to the previous owner who failed to inform me of the problem (using hot ammo?), or it's a factory defect. Either way, its getting a brand new barrel, a fixed safety, and a proper 'once over' to deal with the FTE issue-- all out of pocket because Kel-Tec doesn't honour warranties on used rifles!!

I really like this rifle, but I can't live with any deficiencies. I many end up selling it after it's properly fixed just because this experience has left such a bad taste in my mouth, but unlike the previous owner, I would never sell a rifle with any known deficiencies. Of course when I e-mailed the PO over these issues, he failed to respond! I hate myself for giving him a positive trader rating, but I didn't notice the barrel defects until after the first cleaning, and he claimed that it functioned "flawless". :(

I lubed the snot out of mine and went out to shoot it dirty from 200+- rounds a month ago - not a single problem to report.

I like the gun quite a bit, actually. It's fun as hell to shoot. My only complaint is that the sights SUCK A LOT, particularly the gimmicky, plastic front sight "blade".

Post pictures if you can, I want to see this.

Sorry to hear that. I guess there are some unscrupulous people out there. I hope you at least got a good price on the used rifle. I'm hoping that Keltec does a good job on the repairs. I love the concept of this rifle, but not impressed with its execution so far.

My first Beretta unit would not run at all, serious feed and extraction issues. Warranty via Wanstalls had me with a new gun in 4 weeks. Called Kel-Tec and they sent me a free plate to convert to S&W mags. Have run 500 rounds so far with Zero issues. I know a lot of shooters prefer the Glock version, but for my money the Sig/Beretta/S&W which are the same chassis with only a thumb nail sized plate adapter as the different part is the the more versatile gun.

Well I calculated the cost of all the accessories (and there are many)... and I saved about a $150... big deal! I would have gladly spent $150 more for a real "flawless" rifle.

Trust me, I tried for hours to capture the barrel issues with my digital camera... no dice. Either too dark, or too much flash.
I asked Vault to send me back the original barrel if my repairs are not covered under warranty (in other words they don't need to send anything back to Kel-Tec).
I might have a smith cut it down, polish it out, and recrown it. It actually shot very well, so whatever caused the defects, it didn't affect accuracy.

I actually sent mine back for warranty repair. It sucks, but as Colin said, part of his bolt face is missing a cut, which is a serious problem. I didn't want to take a chance with just a quick fix that might overlook some major issue.

How long has it been since you sent your Sub2K in for repairs? I am trying to gauge how long I will have to wait.

hey guys.. having a problem where after each round is fired the bolt does not appear to go back far enough to reset the hammer. So the first shot is fine but the next shot when you pull the trigger there is no resistance and no click. I am not sure if it is actually a problem with the safety though. Anyway I am using Blazer Brass 124 gr. I am bummed out because
this was my first time shooting it and had higher expectations. I used both original glock 9mm mags and KCI.

My Sub2000 stove piped on the last round, every mag. Shortly after that the safety would partially engage after every round, disconnecting the trigger. I would have to push the safety out a touch after every shot.

I immediately called the dealer and got set up for a full refund. Do not waste your time or money on this firearm, it's plastic junk after having to deal with it.

I might cut my loses and just toss the Sub2K... literally in G... and sell the extra parts separately... sometimes you can polish a turd, but in the end, it's still a turd!! To think I could have bought a crate of SKS's for what I spent on my Sub2K... damn stupid... but a learning experience nonetheless.
