Any Ruger American Rifle Owners ?

I wish I could answer you but I'm still saving up for one myself.

I have a bunch of links to various youtube reviews if you want.

here is my thread on my .270 it groups MOA with factory ammo. Cant beat that for 400$. And the Ruger trigger is actually way nicer then the Accu-Trigger.

I have one in the safe (308), only shot it 20 times with a red dot and it have potential ( trigger is very nice), will have to scope with quality and try it seriously... JP.

A friend of mine bought one in 30.06. He likes it and has no complaints. Says it groups well ect.

The only downfall I've read about the Ruger American is that the forestock is a bit flexible and can touch the barrel other than that, I've only seen positive reviews.

I put a few wraps of electrical tape around the barrel 3 inches from the forend tip, that keeps the barrel centered in the stock

Then it is no longer free-floating and you're disrupting the barrel's harmonics. Unless you're bedding the stock and the tape is to keep it centered while the compound sets.

I have one in .243 with a bushnell elite3200 4-12x40 in Warne Maxima rings on it.It is a tack driver.I may bed a couple of carbon fibre or aluminum arrows into the forend if i decide to start using a bi pod on it.Then again, i don't think it necessary.I'm about to try one of the mossy oak gun camo kits on it soon.Curious to see the results.

Mine (308) can smack gongs at 300yds, all day long. Really.

It also makes a good gopher gun....

That's all I've done with mine but am happy with it for sure.

Just curious and not trying to be a smart ass. Why would you do that with a free floating barrel?

The forend was so flimsy in the first place that it would bear against the barrel on one side or the other depending on the day. I would rather have even consistant pressure that that. There is not enough material in the sides to start with so hogging more out isnt going to improve matters. Has it affected the accuracy? Can't say for sure , but it will shoot 3 shot groups under a half inch without much load development.

OK thanks. I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem. Kind of silly for Ruger to brag about a free floating system for enhanced accuracy when a flimsy forend negates the benefits. :)

It's probably not a problem unless the tape somehow slips or degrades between shots.

Constant upwards pressure near the muzzle end has been a harmonics fix for rifles for a long time.

I had a Sporter M38 Swede in a plastic craptastic Ramline stock like this. The only cure for the flimsy stock was a tight shim of wood screwed into and near the end of the forend under the barrel.
