Anyone try a lar-15 mag in then t97?

What's the material of the magwell made of, plastic or alloy?
Either way a light sanding or polishing would probably make that an easy poor mans fix no?

Just a warning to make it VERY light, like no power tools. You don't wanna bite into the metal. Just go over the bumps in a couple of swipes with high grit sandpaper. I'm betting that if the mags get a more aggressive polish, especially along the spine, that will do a lot more than trying to modify the magwell.

This is strange. I can use pmags gen 2 & 3 but lar15 grey only 2 of 6 will fit.

I have 2 black lar15 that fit no prob. I have 5 rnd that came with my mvp that will fit and drop.

Seems mine is fine with pmags (4 of 15)

Ok, by loosening the mag release button I was able to make 3 out of 7 LAR mags work. Watch out, it's not like on the AR where you rotate the mag catch. You turn the actual button. To get it to the point where you can use a screwdriver, your best bet is to put a plastic bag over the mag release button and clamp down with visegrips so you don't damage the finish. If your magwell is looser than mine, you can get it to the point where you can use all of your LAR mags.

About 1/2 of my LAR15 mags drop free. The CQ mags that came with our Norinco M4'geries also drop free.

Liking the T97 & gonna be trying it out tomorrow!

Cheers
Jay

Wonder how many people will sand away the inside of their mag wells before they try unscrewing the mag catch first.

Could you not just push the mag release farther in and spin the other side? Like an AR mag catch?

Nope. It doesn't push out far enough, so you gotta turn the actual button, which is circular.

That did it for the mags that fit, now my black lar15, pmag gen3 and 2 lar15 grey all drop free. I have one gen 3 pmag that is tight (fits) and will not drop free but this is the rivet that sticks out to much when i compare it to the other pmags that work.

Thanks Tratserif

I will try to sand down my other lar mags, that's about the only thing I can do. I really wanna take this puppy out and not COMPLETELY embarrass myself with my times ;)

For me - my Gen3 PMAGs are work ok (little bit of friction, have not done release work to get drop free), but my earlier PMAGS (first & 2nd gen) are super super tight.

Same here.

A.S.C. LAR mags work great on the T97 and my TAVOR.

I must say, build quality on the T97 looks great, right down to fit and finish.

TAVOR fit n finish, no.

Glock Ugly, Yes, but I'm also a Glock lover.

For a reintroduction onto the market I must say you get allot of bang for the buck with a T97.

D&H mags work slick in the T97. Of course also with the Tavor and AR15. Bolt hold open works and they drop free.

Also note that the factory mag has the rifle serial number on it so don't lose it!!

so how does everybody release the mag, im all thumbs when trying to change/release mags on it. Left hand has a hard time reaching the release thumb hooks on mag then index finger dont reach, right hand using thumb to release but aukward to keep shouldered . Any hints?? And charging handle is charged how?? hook it with one finger? cause two dont fit..

So far until we get an ambi release I use the left hand index finger by grabbing around the front of the magazine to hit the release button. Seems to be the least awkward way. But if your index finger doesn't reach then that is a problem. Maybe try hitting the front of the mag with the back of your left palm to give more reach to your index finger?

I've been using two fingers. Index and then the one beside it. Index slides in and then the second assists. Think angling your two fingers down then they go parallel to the receiver as you start the charging handle. Maybe the index is starting the charge and the other finger is assisting once it gets harder. Think keeping your hand flat ie parallel to the receiver not palm towards you as only one finger fits on the actual charging handle. Either way it seems to be the easiest way. Less harsh on your fingers too.

Mag update

Factory mag-Feeds great and drops free
Pmag Gen 3-Spine of magazine is too wide to fit in magwell, will try to file narrower and test
Thermold-Wont fit
Grey LAR15-one is too wide at the spine to fit into magwell
---------------the second one fits nice, drops free, BUT does not feed the rounds. The bullets hit just below the feed ramp, which would presumably push the bullets into the case, almost like the mag isn't in quite far enough seated

Another update:

After a few minutes of light sanding and filing the PMAG Gen 3 works perfect. It falls out effortlessly and feeds very nice.
Here are some pics, I left the pmag un oiled so you can see where the sanding was more easily.

I had a good 3 hours a the range today and had 3 FTFs with the LAR mags.
I can't recommend them.

Your results may vary.

The D&H mags were flawless.
