Ruger vs. Tikka... Thoughts?

You seem to be missing the point again...I'm not using the bullet to evaluate the rifle....it typically shoots whatever bullet I decide upon based on its downrange performance.

And the same for Ruger. Only difference is I work up a handload and you are using select factory ammo.

What ammo are you using for your 500+ yards shots on game?

Superformance to 500 yards. It's not my rifle either but Vanessa does allow me to shoot it occasionally. ;) It's been to Africa twice, on many sheep hunts, to the Yukon and a host of other places and hasn't let us down yet.
 
It's an interesting video. In all cases the action seemed to hold together which is important. As far as barrels bursting I am not sure what that means. Could be a heat treatment issue or it could be a one off for the ones that did and didn't burst.

Also wonder if it was the exact same chambering, powder, powder charge and bullet brand/style/weight with each test?...

So you use select premium ammunition to make your Tikka perform at distance. Similar to using quality handloads........

There is no hysteria here. People on CGN have had issues with their bolt shrouds. There is a big market for aftermarket bolt shrouds. If it wasn't a problem, nobody would be paying $60 a pop for them.

There are other issues with the T3 too- you can't top load into the magazine and they only make one action length are a couple off the top of my head.

while i like the Ruger more than a Tikka it s true there is only action lenght but you can positively top load a T3 for any shot you need (not feeding all the magazine) and i dont have small fingers or hands ...

i agree on one side Beretta who owns Sako that owns Tikka were very clever to sell that rifle at that huge market price when really this rifle is a marlin xl7, stevens 200 or savage axis ...

Tikka defenders wont be happy but this is the truth ...

my simple ruger hawkeye 30-06 whatever the factory 180 grains i choose is putting down the little boar at 300 yards meters will it met your standard ... it s good enough for mine ...

i dont hunt any animal after that distance ....

I know you can drop a round into the action and close it, but you can't top off the magazine without removing it is what I mean.

I know you can drop a round into the action and close it, but you can't top off the magazine without removing it is what I mean.

The points given were not solely based on the plugged barrel test, according to your link. Points were also given for other criteria like corrosion resistance, value for price, etc.
All guns scored a perfect 5 for the explosion except the two which disintegrated, Browning and Remington.

I dont own a Tikka but if you think the T3's are the same quality as an Axis, Stevens 200 or Marlin XL7 you are not right in the head...They are not close in any way. Mold lines, rough actions, poor fit and finish are all common on entry leval guns in the $300-350 mark. Stevens, Axis and the Xl7 share these characteristics, Tikka has none of these.
 
I have 3 Rugers 25/06,30/06 and a 7mm Rem Mag .I also own a 300 Win Mag Tikka 695 not a T-3 and I love them all . They have all done the job for me. Get whatever fits you best!
