So I picked up this Arisaka Type 99 sight unseen and am pretty sure I lucked out. From what I can tell it is a Toyo Kogyo Arsenal series 32. This arsenal was apparently just outside Hiroshima which makes it even cooler. My best guess is that it's a late 1942 but if anyone has a better idea please let me know. It came complete with the dust cover but unfortunately isn't early enough to retain the anti-aircraft sights. Ground mum as well but you can still see a fair amount of it.
It sure looked like it went through hell during the war. I cleaned up the bit of surface rust that it had and the bore looks excellent.
I don't have any ammo for it yet so if anyone knows where I can get a few rounds of 7.7 Jap (still looking for 8x50r Lebel too) let me know. I'll be going down the reloading route next year but it would be nice to try it out before the snow comes.
I would also like to know what would be the correct bayonet for the year of manufacture? I know it uses the Type 30 bayonet but would be the straight quillon or hooked version?
