Who will try ambi mag release on Type97?

I finished my ambi release off with some paint and did a bit more grinding on the lever. I added a bit of a lip on the bottom to make gripping it easier.

Mag changes are much quicker and consistent with the ambi release.

I was thinking that if I wanted to make a version 2.0 that I could swap it (+cash) with someone local, as I don't think spares are available just yet. I'm pretty happy with this version so far though.

I will wait for your manual bolt hold open/release ( thin channel at the back of the magwell just infront of the mag release spring)

You should be able to make one this evening :)
 
Id buy one from anyone who sells them... the three things this gun needs in order of importance are:

Better safety lever, preferably modified for 1/4 turn instead of 1/2.
Ambi mag release (like the one above... id pay good money for it)
Bolt hold open of SOME kind... any kind really.

I guess #4 would be a proper fitting, fitted cheek riser. Mine works fine but its not a proper solution really.
 
One more thing to add to the list: lefty or righty charging handle, the factory one sucks.
So if anyone makes a nice one I would like to purchase the first one;)

When the mag is out of the weapon and you want to hold the action to the rear, just pull the charging handle back and insert the indix finger of your other hand into the magwell, push the bolt catch up and let the bolt go forward where it will catch on, well, the bolt catch.

On a side note, the Beowolf mags will go in with great difficulty and require two people to help one remove it from them magazine well. Also, I wonder if a left hand bolt is possible?

True that is one way but I was thinking of something like the xcr-l and its bolt hold open.

i did that at urban tac with the guy that runs the store, i asked if the .50 mags fit and he said he had not try it yet.
so i grabbed the one i just bought 60 seconds ago ripped open the package and tried to fit it in and it got stuck, he held the gun and i pulled on the mag. was really tight.
 
If the Beowolf mags were made from aluminium and had the same contours as a mil-spec M-16 magazine there would be no problems. The magazine provided with the rifle has difficulty seating and dropping. U.S. M-16 magazines go in quick and drop quick.

Can't find twist rate on these barrels. some say 1/7 and others 1/8. What would be the best bullets for the Type 97?

Most likely 62grain ammo. PMC 223 bronze is worth a try though. But I would consider going to the 62grain stuff. I remember it being 1:7.
