LEGAL 10 round SKS with detachable mag...accomplished!..

Thanks for the encouragement.

To answer some questions. Yes, machining the receiver is mandatory to allow the mag to sit high enough so the bottom of the bolt will catch the round. The bolt has to be machined so it will slide in between the mag lips. The trigger groups fwd ears need to be trimmed back and the bolt hold open catch has to be reworked. Of ofcourse the stock mag hole has to be widened and extended and the mag release channel cut

The hard part was trial and error. The constant remove and trim and figuring the correct angle for the mag. It may look like it's sitting on a 90 to the receiver but it's not.

I was contemplating doing a few of these. My friend is already lined up. Cost wise I'm definitely not gonna get rich of this as the time invested would make the cost astronomical if shop hours are used.

In The end if a manufacturer wants to be involved something like the vz58 magwell adapter can be manufactured on scale. The receiver is also needed to be modified

I was thinking of buying a few refurbished no matching Sks's and selling them modified with the adapter.

PS to hobby machinists like me. Don't even bother with HSS end bits on the receiver and bolt. It mangles them

if you don't want to machine the bolt you just insert the magazine on a open bolt... cant do it when it's closed...

A criminal wouldn't bother with the lowly sks anyway. The sks is for trailor trash like me.

A criminal would just take a hammer and a punch to the pin and hammer away till it breaks out... or a grinder... Or take a tapco mag and cut the piece that stops the magazine from coming down... or go into the us and buy a 20 rnd one and just bring it back illegally... So the average Joe that doesn't want to break the law gets screwed over the nut job or criminal doesn't care they're breaking the law to begin with..

i think that you will be able with HSS but the receiver is probably a steel with a lot of carbon so harder to mill , but if you have carbide no prob the job will be done faster .

Time to turn your hobby in a business and start taking some orders buddy!
I'd be willing to pay 200$ to 300$ + shipping back and forth for a quality mod like that if you guarantee the quality of the workmanship.

I prefer the 5 rounds. I guy can't dial in a target with just five rounds with an SKS. The broad side of the barn will be safe. But with 10 rounds he just might hit it once. It's a canadian safety thing. It gives the deer a chance with only 5 shots.

You're just being silly now

So....i can just see you there, rolling your eyes and cracking your knuckles ready to chew out a newbie for ONCE AGAIN asking the same damn thing....

well, not exactly....

watch the video....and wipe the drool...

i know another gentleman has grafted an XCR-L mag to an SKS. Saw the video, but that was not removable. As far as i could see all he could do was use the stripper clips to feed the mag. To me, thats kinda a grey area. If a mag is not removable then its no longer an XCR-L mag but a permanent attachment to the firearm.

anywho, comments are welcome....and i'm sure i'll be called a "bubba" a few times....:stirthepot2:

RANGE REPORT!!

works great!

Wow man! Awesome Job! Im in Toronto. Would you be willing to make one up for me? for a reasonable fee of course?

Please let me know

LOL, yea i still have the VTR....although i ride a KTM 640 Supermoto now....GTAMotorcycle? TRATSERIF = Firestart... yea i remember you mentioning something about the SKS + XCR on GTAM...

Yea i work by Vaughan Mills, somewhere along 50 sounds good.

Cool!! I'm also on GTAMotorcycle.. DaytonaRon. I've got an 03 Triumph Daytona 955 with a ton of mods :)
Great to see a fellow rider on the board.
and YES I want your mod! :)

Im still confused... Does the law not state you MAY NOT HAVE MORE THEN 5 ROUNDS ? I mean this holds ten so how is it legal ?
I mean even in my legal pinned mag the came with my sks its only supposed to hold 5, I can jam 6 in there if I want... But I mean whats the point?

Yes the law is pretty clear, 5 rds centre fire semi-auto.

The laws never clear. From what I understand is if 10 or whatever round mag is legal to use in another gun you can legally use it as long as you don't modify the mag. Some restricted guns can have higher capacity mags legally. Am I close?

And one of the reasons is its fun
