Hello guys,

I thought I'll share with you the baby of my rifles, the Persian Mauser 98/29 Carbine. This particular one is in pristine condition, very few rounds to it and like they are all reputed to be, I can say it is the best Mauser action that is out there.

Oh and if you're wondering why I called it the flamethrower, it is because it literally throws a fireball from the muzzle. This is caused by the shorter length of barrel and a lot of unburned powder from the 8mm cartridge.

Here some more pictures:

Appreciate the share! a very nice mauser no doubt. Maybe throw up a video or picture of one of those flameballs haha.

Thank you for sharing this, it almost makes me said wen I look at your beautiful firearm and I think of the condition of the last 2 I receive. Did you buy it in persone, of the internet with many photos or just a internet dealer with one generic photo?

Nice! I have to add a Persian to my collection some day. They are really one of the nicest looking Mausers out there.

Thanks for sharing this!

You're quite welcome!

Indeed, and at the cost of sounding a Persian Mauser fanatic, I'll say that they're not only the best looking they also have the best action only rivaled by the Vz.24s. Persians are essentially the BRNO mausers, except these never really saw action. You can find some that are almost brand new!

It's a pity they are impossible to find here in Canada so might have to import one. If you need a second opinion or any info on the Persian Mausers hit me up, if there is one rifle I know about that's the Persian Mauser :)

Haha, I will be at Silverdale this Saturday, I'll try to get it on video if the range officers allow it. However I am kind of short on the 8mm ammo and it's impossible to in GTA at the moment :(

This particular one is actually a family heirloom, crafted by mother's uncle when he was at the army arsenal. Hard to believe it's almost 80 years old right?

I'm not surprised by the poor conditions of the one you got. When these were imported to US they were very cheap, since they had no historical value to people, so sadly they were treated poorly. However people slowly realized the quality of these Mausers, and now the prices are going up.

If you are going to buy one online, I can recommend the ones that Jackson's Armory puts up for sale. You can find the on GunBroker quite often. The carbines are very hard to find, however there are a couple of very good long rifle versions right now on the GB, one that is actually a collectors grade but I have spent more than enough on firearms this month. Makes me sad that I can't bid on it lol

Thanks for the offer to help with info OP! It is a Mauser that's on my short list for sure. They are a bit hard to find up here but lots in the US.

A couple of years ago there was one at a local gun show that was almost as nice as yours (full length rifle though) for 500 bucks. I was out of cash at the time though and missed out on it.f:P:

I have an almost identical one sitting in my safe, except for the stock number that doesn't match the rest. :( You are not exaggerating when you say it has the best mauser action possible. Once you cycle that action, nothing else feels the same anymore. What is done can never be undone.

I have been in market for another collector grade of these and a long one for a while, to no avail. Tried the US route through kellay at Profit River, but turned out that the particular grade I wanted will cost in excess of $2000 by the time it hit my door steps. You just rekindled the flame! A very expensive flame!

By the way, I don't hand load. What factory ammo works best in your rifle?

I would try gunbroker, I actually see 1 long rifle one that seems to be in like new condition but the carbines are very hard to come by.

I used to have some Persian surplus that were imported by Samco, and they cycled very smoothly. The only issue was that I can confidently say that 3-4 out of 10 hang fired. Nicely built ammo but poorly kept. Since then I've tried quite a few, Yugo surplus, Prvi and Winchester ones. I can't really say one is significantly better than the rest, but if I had to pick, I'd give the edge to Winchester Super X.

I remember in the late '60s when the 'Three Vets' Outdoor Store in Vancouver (it was on Main St. then) had a barrel full of those carbines jammed in. You had your pick for about $29.99.
Jungle carbines were going for a little more at the time as the ammo was a little easier to get.

I wasn't even born then :(

Here is the one I found last spring, it is in unissued, unfired condition (not anymore), with number matching bayonet.

That is a sweet rifle. If you do any shooting beyond 100 yards you will start to appreciate that long barrel, these are almost pinpoint accurate.

Did you buy it? And where did you find it if you don't mind me asking.
