Anybody making a SKS short like a paratrooper model?

Instead of paying the high price to get the shortened version of the SKS. Has anybody done it themselves? Not sure what is involved but someone should go for it!

Well for one, cutting a barrel to shorter than 18", even if the overall length remains 26"+, will make your SKS a prohibited firearm. So you'd have to find a barrel that was manufactured at the length you want, and then you'd have a restricted SKS due to barrel length.

Both are pretty unattractive scenarios.

my heory is why make an sks anything than it is... an sks. i can understaqnd the the tacticool. i have one. as well as an all original. but trying to figure out this mod.. probably a waste of time. just my 2 cents. best of luck though.

Taking a inch and a half off a SKS barrel is just not worth it in my opinion. If your talking Paratrooper length of 16inches cutting it down to that length is illegal! The SKS needs to be manufactured to that length to be legal as a restricted firearm. Not alot of them around but there are some; just not worth the extra money in my opinion for just a range gun SKS.

I passed on a Paratrooper SKS a few years ago because of the price and I do have a SKS-M 18.5 inch barrel and to be honest my full length SKS's get more use. The shorter barrel is just not that big a deal on a SKS.

Well, to be a smart ass technically they aren't. Someone is paying for this website and maintenance is needed to clear the databases when there is too much crap. So double threads, etc do take a toll eventually.
It is very easy to search.

Lol good answer. And for the record, that build has been worth it all the way. To have an SKS that lightweight and balanced is not something I would have though possible. Every mod made a much appreciated improvement.
