I've never fired one of these but have always been curious.

How accurate can this round be as compared to say 338 lapua and other large magnums. I know it all depends on the rifle but what type of accuracy are those of you who play with this gun typically get. Also, what rifle and load are you using.

Thanks

the .50 bmg was never designed as a sniper platform, but sub moa is possible with good match ammo.

338 was built from the ground up to be a long range round, much better ballistics, much better for hitting infantry at 1000+ then almost any other round.

The 338 also holds the world record for the longest ever confirmed kill which was held by a Canadian with a .50 bmg before.

no sources cause fuk it

A Buddy's LRT-3 is a 1/2moa capable gun as is my Steyr HS.50. As for the Lapua having better "ballistics" I disagree. A 300gr Berger Hybrid at 2750 gets trumped by a 750gr A-max at 2750. BC difference of approx .200.

Cost is pretty much the same in Factory loaded ammo. $140 per 20 .50 BMG A-max vs. $140 for Federal GMM 300gr. Matchkings.

If we can get the better BMG bullets used in 1000yd Boomer BR, accuracy will be very similar between these two large chamberings.

Assuming recoil is not part of the mix, I think you will see averages approaching similar results nowadays.

If bullet quality is limited, then the 338 will outshoot the BMG. It is all about the bullet you can launch.

416 and 408 have very limited bullet options and most are not match grade.

If you wanted the best possible LR accuracy out to 1mile, I would lean to a 30cal, then 338, then 7mm.

the problem with factory 338LM rifles, the barrels are way too shorts
most have a 26" includint a huge brake so it leaves only 24" of barrel
with a 30", it is a different story and the rifle is still comfortable to shoot without brake

I better go order a barrel for my Timberwol in 30" the CGN experts have spoken.
Just like 168's destabilize when they go sub sonic:) Even though I have made very accurate hits at 1000 yards and others have had nice round hit marks at 1000 m showing the bullet was still stable even though it went SS around 800m.

Out of a 26" barrel I get 2770-2800 FPS with 300 gr Scenars with 250 gr I get 3000 fps.

Your right :) Steyr Hs-50 is half price , and twice accurate and shoot all 50 bmg ammo .lol GReat advise to OP :p

Don't get too excited! You are one of the CGN experts I am talkin about!! LOL !

Kevin M's Serbu held MOA at 700 M very impressive and that was with cheap ammo!

I was there to witness a CF sniper zero it and make hits at 700m or 800m cannot remember exact distance holding 1 MOA. For what Kevin spent it was a great purchase! I think your just jealous ;-)

i'm Expert ? LOL ... who said that ??? , everybody know Serbu 50a is a 2moa Gun , oups ,except Serbu Owner, It will never shoot like a steyr anyway , lost of money for a poor man like me :)

PS : If i was an expert , i will not read this forum for sure :)

Nice Try .....

I am not a Serbu owner so really have no reason to care either way.

I guess you did not hear me! A professional Sniper team was able to hold 1MOA with cheap ammo. Did I expect this no! But it is what it is I was there witnessed it.

Here is what other Mil/LE have said!

“The accuracy, ease of shooting and reliability of the BFG-50A far surpasses any other semi-auto .50 BMG rifle on the market,” said Captain Satterfield, head of Georgia’s Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office sniper team. “My fellow snipers and I are sincerely appreciative of the support and expertise provided by Serbu Firearms throughout our testing and purchasing process.”
The BFG-50A has achieved .5 MOA accuracy at 400 yards, a feat impossible with any other semi-automatic .50 BMG rifle. Its nitrided alloy steel barrel features the exclusive Serbu Accuracy Chamber, which allows shooters to fire standard surplus as well as match ammunition and fire either more accurately than guns equipped with machine gun chambers. Field stripping takes seconds and is accomplished with nothing more than a bullet point. However, stripping is not required for transporting in its case; the 51.5” overall length means it comes out of the case fully assembled and ready to go. The hand guard and barrel/barrel extension are easily replaced, making configuration or caliber changes easy and the incredibly effective Shark Brake muzzle brake coupled with a thick butt pad and hydraulic buffer make the BFG-50A the lightest recoiling .50 BMG rifle available.
