buddy forgets ammo at home after driving 4 hours

Crustyrusty..............Laugh2.........seriously funny chit right there..........

A few years ago, I went grouse hunting around my property. There was a 4-5 km long walk from the place I parked my truck to the property, so I took my CZ .22, grabbed my back pack and off I went. I was almost at my property when I noticed a grouse sitting in a tree about 15 meters off the trail. Easy head shot, I thought.... As I raised my rifle I realized that I left the magazine and the ammo in the rifle case inside the truck. Oh, #$^&.... f:P:2: So I put my back pack on the ground to mark the spot, hoping that the grouse will still be in the area when I get back. I had plenty of time for cursing on the way back.... :bangHead: When I got to the truck, I realized that I left the truck keys in the back pack....... f:P: Laugh2

When new hunters come to my store and ask me about insane calibers for hunting they give me a weird look when I tell them buy a 30-06, 270 308 or 30-30 for hunting most game for the simple reason that if you forget your 308norma mag or 6.5x55 or 338lm most places don't carry it but 30-06,270,308 and 30-30 you can find at almost any Walmart crappy tire or mom and pop store in the country

i always bring two guns to camp, both the same caliber, this year it will be 375s.i do worry though on where to put the extra gun when i go out .ive been hiding it in the truck and cover it up with non camo clothing ,plus locking the truck up.to afraid of leaving in camp unatended.i did make a mistake a few years ago and had two calibers and you guessed it ,the wronge bullets in my pocket with wronge gun.good thing we camped in the bush and i was only 5 min away from the trailer.did have a member show up a few years ago with the wronge keys to triger lock.a pair of vise grips and chanel lock did the trick.

A hunting buddy of mind told me to stay away from 300 WSM and go with 300 Win Mag for exactly this reason. I thought at the time, "Who would ever forget their ammo?" LOL, we're all human.

I recently checked the Nanaimo Can Tire just to see if 300 WSM is indeed as rare as stated and sure enough they had one type available, whereas the 300 Win Mag was available in about 4-5 different weights/brands. I imagine it would only get worse the farther North you go.

Something to think about.

PS - I love checklists whenever I'm packing.
