I'm doing some $$$ planning and I'm thinking if I should do a DMR clone build. Any idea what the gunsmith fees would be to assembly this not including bedding the stock? Basically I give someone a bag of parts, and he turns it into a fully functional barreled action. How much do you think that would typically cost?

Might be cheaper if you let the gunsmith get some of the parts... What I did is I bought a stock I wanted for a 10/22 build then just went to Joe at Dlask arms said I want this and this can you make it he went sure made and got all the parts barrel ect I just handed him the stock but he makes the DAR parts so.... Depends on what you want he might have stuff. He can convert his muzzle breaks to work if you see 1 you like and want it for another caliber as well so he can do custom work price depends on what you want I've sent many firearms to him sometimes it's cheap sometimes it's allot but it always depends on how much the parts cost for him to get them so he is very reasonable.

Just goto Dlask Arms and search M14 and you will see some of the custom parts you can order and barreling cost ect on the website. That will give you an idea. Contacting the gunsmith helps to as everyone has there own price for things depending on the work you want done if they have to get parts or not ect. Sometimes it's better to get parts from the gunsmith because they can get better prices and bring the total cost down a little.

In my case, the main work would be installing the barrel and bolt to the receive, headspacing the bolt which might involve lapping it and installing the gas system components. That would be the minimum needed. Other work would include installing everything else, bedding the stock and what every else can be done to accurize the rifle. Basically to take a bag of parts, and turn it into a new rifle.

Dlask doesn't "build" M14 rifles.
They do barrel shortening and basic stuff, but I've dealt with them for near 20 years and never seen the "build" or source parts for a customers m14. In fact I think most real m14 work got referred to me up until I closed the shop early this year. They did for a while offer RWB oprods and more recently, their gas lock sight.

When I was building these rifles, the basic rate for a "build" was in the 325.00 range and that included trigger work and gas system unitizing.
Extras to that would have been fitting GI type bolts, chamber reaming on match barrels ect.

Right now, your best bet is to get ahold of Tac Ord and get a quote from Casey

Thanks. I was hoping you'd be the one to reply. I was budgeting around $500, so I think i'm in the safe ball park zone.
