Hi guys,

I am hoping I can get what I hope to be a fairly simple answer for an easy question. I recently received my 1942 Mosin from Westrifle, and promptly threw it in an archangel stock. However, after thinking everything was perfect, (besides the sewer pipe bore which after three days of cleaning is still dirty) I noticed when I dry fire it, the bolt handle moves up slightly. This is fairly concerning because I am not sure what will happen when I really fire it. If I hold the handle down, its fine, so its not a lot of force that moves it. Does everyone elses bolt handle slightly rotate upwards when dry-firing? Is this an issue or is this a mosin noob being a mosin noob :)?

Thanks guys

That sounds a bit odd. Though there is nothing on the end of the extractor or occupying dead space in the chamber. If you're concerned, see if you have a spent cartridge case. insert it in the mag and push the bolt forward on the empty cartridge case. See what your result will be with a cocking of the rear cocking piece and firing of the pin. The tolerances on soviet era, war relics was looser to begin with.

Make sure to check your firing pin protrusion, a ton of videos on mosin bolts on youtube for that.

As for the bore. Graphite, a by product from Soviet era ammo, deposits in the fine pores of the metal. This is natural. So you will never get the bore spotless, ever. CLean it as usual, and if shooting corrosive, then you know the drill.

Good luck.

Dont worry, its normal. All my Mosin do that, its only the play in the bolt handle, the bolt head will not unlock on his own upon firing.

Thanks for the responses guys! I will be cautious when giving it the first test fire, just in case, but if others have the same issue/result, I am not so worried!

And what are you looking for pics of? The whole set-up or the bore or what? Pics can be arranged :) I would like to know what the stamped A on the receiver wall means, I looked but didn't find anything on it..

No need to worry, its not an issue at all, its just the way the design is. Mosin have been tested since 1891:)
