That scope seems to be just the ticket for this rifle. About 3" shorter than a full-size scope, might be able to mount it comfortably forwards without moving the rings too far forward... I don't own one and don't wanna be a guinea pig for MORE optics choices, so I wanted to check if anybody here owns a T97 and a P223 and if they tried marrying the 2.

I had issues with a similar sized scope.. Mounted at its most stable, it was too far back and I REALLY needed to scrunch my neck to get a sight picture. Mounted forwards, it was too high and wouldn't hold zero (possible due to the rail itself, which I've since corrected with loctite). Another issue is that with the height difference and forward mounting, you'll be dealing with MONSTER Arkansas elevation.

DMS was a no go. I had a .75 riser on there, and it just barely done it with low millet rings. Couldn't get low enough to use the irons using this setup. Plus, as you mentioned, it's too close to get a good sight picture. Hauled the scope and the riser off within 20 rounds.

The PU scope from Corwin Arms is shorter but designed for the 7.62x54 caliber. You will literally have to keep a logbook to translate the distances betwen calibers. Doable, but not convenient. The Nikon is short enough and designed for .223rem but not as rugged. Still on the fence, assuming I decide not to rock the TRS-25 any more.

Here's about as low as you're going to get with that handle in the way. 4.75" from center of scope to center of bore (vs 3.5" on irons). Will need a cheek rest.

Lol thanks for the mockup. When the rail arrives, my advice is to push the scope a bit to the back as the mount itself is most stable in that area but you don't wanna push it too far back or you'll be craning your neck. Also, loctite the screws on the mount.

What rings are you planning on using.....the Nikon rings P-series?
I used Millet DMS on my type 97 last week, that think was way to heavy for the rifle and the mount. Point of impact was wondering. I tried light red dot and it was very consistent

Arkansas elevation is adjusting your point of aim for the distance, so for example, with the Visionking scope, I was dead on at 50 but had to aim 3" high at 20 and 5" low at 100 in order to hit the bullseye. Same goes for Kentucky windage - instead of using your sight turret, you just estimate the lateral drift so if you think the point of impact will be 5" to the right, you aim 5" left to hit dead center.

Being new to optics, I was just wondering if you guys could answer my question. Obviously to clean the gun you need to remove both the rail and the optic, I like to clean it after every shooting session. Does the scope need to be zeroed again? and if so, is it too excessive to clean it after every shooting session? maybe I am just neurotic.
You can clean what needs to be cleaned without removing the rail. Remove the receiver cover, take out the sear/bolt/carrier, pull back the plastic piece with the carry handle about 1cm and you can already take out the gas reg which gives you access to the piston/spring/gas tube. Otherwise, yes you would have to rezero each and every time.
I shot my T97 today for the first time (blasphemous, had it for 10 days!!) and loved it with iron sights. Someone else had a T97 with a scope mounted on it, he also had a cheek rest secured to it with some velcro, but I hated it, in fact that person took everything off and was using iron sights by the time I left.
