375 H & H for Moose ?

I've used the H&H for years on everything from Cape buffalo and moose down to groundhogs and coyotes. It's the ultimate do-everything rifle, and using it in that role ensures that when you go on that dream hunt in Africa or Alaska, you will be totally comfortable and confident with your choice.

Downside? You will hear every "expert" you meet (and they're all experts!) telling you that his .243 is more than sufficient for moose "if you do your part", and wondering what it is that you're "compensating" for.

The .375 H&H is one of the finest cartridges available anywhere for just about anything. I have used a Rem 700 .375 H&H to take animals as small as blue duiker up through caribou and moose right up to lion, leopard, crock and hippo. As boomer said pros are uncountable....cons, zero.....My rifle is not particularly heavy, about 8 lbs all up and I load 270 gn tsx to 2900+ fps with RL 15. Never feel the recoil when shooting game and even off the bench it is no issue. The rifle fits me well and has a limbsaver pad, very comfortable to shoot. I have 4 of them and can't say enough good about the more than 100 year old "TRUE KING" of the med bores. It wears a 1.5-6 X 42 Zeiss in Leupold mounts and shoots under MOA when I do my part. I actually put a PT&G Obendorf bottom metal on this rifle in steel and the Leupold one piece base to add weight as it was a tad light before doing this.

As you can see I've taken some quite small animals with the .375 H&H and none have been "blown to bits" as those inexperienced with the cartridge would have you believe. The puku in the last picture was taken at a ranged 278 mtrs one shot centre chest, so as you can see the .375 does not limit your range capabilities either. I can hit consistently out to 500 mtrs from a good rest with my rifle and load.

I have a BRNO 602 in 375 HH with which I have taken both a moose and a deer. A 300gr Barnes TSX did the job in both cases. My biggest gripe - it's a bit of a beast for still hunting. I've had more perceived recoil on a poorly fitted 308.

Wow what a beautiful rifle and amazing pictures!! Thank you for showing those. They must of been great adventures. I love that style of Remington and would consider that a great choice. Cheers

all i gotta say!!!!

It's really good. At everything. :)

If you could only own one rifle, it's it. The recoil, with practice is perfectly manageable, just be prepared for lots of practice as it is significantly more recoil than inexperienced shooters will be comfortable with, .300 Mag is pretty tame relative.

Tonight I handled what I'm convinced is the sweetest factory .375 H&H, the stainless Winchester Alaskan- it's perfect, even balances way better than my older .375 M70 CRF stainless did, much lighter barrel.

Worked great for me yesterday.

What did ?
The John Deere or the Holland and Holland .
Nice One skhunter, nothing like a grain fed Swamp Donkey lost in a stubble field !
The closest I have come to a .375H&H is the cartridge in my collection .
It sits there with the the .460 Wby and the other Big Boyz.
Shootem if you Gottem !
Tight Groups,

I don't think we have a lot of 5020's out here. When my eyes see that hood design, the 4020 is the size of tractor I'm picturing.
