I was looking around and saw these Mossberg things that take AR mags. Thought it might be an interesting toy. Just figured I would ask around to see if anybody had gotten to play with one and had an opinion. I'm a little skeptical of a mossberg as anything resembling a precision rifle but as a fun coyote gun and maybe tacticool bolt action.

Anyway hope somebody has some feedback.

Saw it at Cabelas the last time I stopped in. It looks a little nicer than some of their previous offerings. Kinda interested in seeing a range review. Not interested in paying to be the guinea pig.

I'm well aware of the mossberg reputation.... however the 500 is a pretty awesome shotgun so I hold out enough hope that I'm intrigued at the price point of this rifle so I'm hoping someone has tried it.

Well looks like im gunna be the test pig. Went to the gun store held it in my hands, tried a 10 round mag in it. Took it home. 20 bux less than i can get it online to boot. Ill update later tonight. Hopefully out to the range this weekend

got her unboxed and my scope mounted and bore sighted. The rifle feels good it has a decent balance and weight, heavier than most sythetic stocks I tried out but its not bad. Love the grey blue wood used its nice. the grip feels really well if you have large hands its perfect. The bolt action is on par with the savages I tried out. I guess some engineering went into the bolt on mossbergs part to make this work with AR mags. I read some reviews on how this made chambering the next round touch and go on occasion but I cycled 40 rounds without issue, unfired tho mind you. The barrel is floating and is a heavy barrel with fluting (grooves on the exterior?) and the trigger guard and mag well are plastic. I wanted a target rifle that I could get some distance out of, that was mag fed and cheap to feed. That sums this rifle up! I bought a 10 round AR pistol mag and its an exact match to the factory mag that mossberg slapped their logo on LOL. Cant wait to put it through the paces now!

2 questions:
1) what does "drop push" bolt design mean?
2) how is the bolt handle attached to the bolt?

Here is a pic of the bolt handle. I cant tell if its two peices pressed together or not?

drop-push is a little invention that Mossberg came up with where the bolt has a small "lip" in the front that drops down to catch a round from an AR mag and pops up again once the round is free and this completes the "circle" of the bolt face which locks up. Essentially , an arc from the bolt face is spring loaded, and pops down and up. Not hard to imagine once you see it........
Funny it took this long.

that would be the little spring loaded lip at the bottom of the bolt. makes sense! thats how it grabs the round out of the mag cool! anyways more ####!

Did zero one this week at the range for a young man, did shoot only 8 rounds out of it but i liked it, the ladd had the cheap UMC 55gr ammo and i managed to put 3 rounds sub MOA at the end, look like a very good value... and very accurate, i recalled the trigger was very good and light... JP.

Now that is interesting. Maybe Mossberg is making a move to become the next cheap and accurate brand? Following in Savage's footsteps perhaps, I look forward to a couple more reviews on these..

After the NightTrain, I'd want to know exactly how that handle is attached. From your picture, I can see what appears to be splines forward of where the handle attaches. In the NightTrain, there were splines on the bolt side, but no matching splines on the inside of the bolt handle where it slips over the bolt body. In other words, it was a press fit, which could, and did fail. Some people were seriously maimed when the bolt came back in their faces when fired.
