I've been researching a scope for a hunting rifle and in the process compiled this list of specifications. The scopes are listed by price from lowest to highest** - but I did not feel it appropriate to include the specific pricing information.

My criteria changed while I was researching and ended up being: decent glass, reasonably light, smaller eyepiece diameter, and under $500. That cut it down to 4 and although the right side of my brain was screaming at me, I let the spreadsheet make the decision and ended up with a discontinued Bushnell Elite 4200.

** I could not get pricing info for the last 2 (Docter and Artemis) so they are at the bottom.

I'm sure you will be happy with your choice. One that does belong on your list is the older Zeiss 3-9x 40mm model. I have one and it is real nice. One of the harder ones to beat for the price I think and there were some good discounts on them recently.

Hmm - out of stock on the 4200, back to the chart. Canoetrpr - you have a lead on an older Conquest? I couldn't find any.

Really don't want to go bigger than 42 on the objective. Looks like it's between the Terra 3x and the SII Big Sky.

Yeah, I'm with you. 50mm is a large objective. Just found out that they discontinued the 3-9x40mm.

I've heard amazing things about those Sightron's. I'm looking for a 4-16x myself and they don't seem to have one in SIII. I might get the SII as well. Not Euro glass but I hear pretty awesome glass for the price.

Drop Jerry a line at Mystic. Very nice guy. Never purchased from him but I intend to some day.

Dante lists the 3x9 4200 Bushnell for $209.77 after $50 mail in rebate...pretty good deal for a scope that was $400 not that long ago...
