375 H & H for Moose ?

I don't think we have a lot of 5020's out here. When my eyes see that hood design, the 4020 is the size of tractor I'm picturing.

Same series/years, different size. Everything is bigger out west.

i find that the 375 with 300 is the same as the 338 with 225 so i sold the 338 and bought another 375 for a back up as between jet boats and atvs you never know.

I would describe 375 H&H recoil as more of a good push then a kick. That said.. I'd rather shoot my Dads' .375 H&H over my .300WSM or a light-weight '06

Barnes data 350gr loading (2450fps over RL15), or a H4350 80grs+ and 300gr, is rough, a lot worse than .458 Win Mag to my cheek, then again the .458 has wonderful manners. Standard 300gr at 2500fps is quite comfortable, if you're accustomed to real recoil.

I think that has more to do with individual guns/stocks,etc. I have a 375 H&H bbl and a 338 WM bbl for my Blaser R93 and the recoil with the 375 is quite a bit more stout, as it should be. I also have a Tikka M695 in 338 that'll rattle your filings, whereas the Ruger RSM in 375 I had was more like a 30-06, but it weighed close to 11 lbs. scoped.

I traded Bearkilr for a beautiful 375 ruger that I use as my go to rifle recoil is very easy on the shoulder compared to other rifles i've had(like 416 rugers 325 wsm's and 300 wby's) and I have a partley torn rotator cuff to boot

Hi Everyone

I was tinkering with the idea of maybe choosing a new Caliber for moose hunting and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the 375 H&H or what the pros and cons might be about this caliber? Thanks

No cons except if you are recoil shy - BUT no worse then a lot of 300 Mags and 338 Mags ! PROS are all GOOD - it kills everything well and does not meat damage some of the smaller animals due to the GREAT bullet construction of MOST 375 cal bullets ! JMO RJ

The only downside that I can see is that my Ruger RSM .375 is a tad heavy to carry all day. Everything else is a positive.

It'd work just fine. Maybe a heavier rifle than necessary and pricier to load and shoot and a hair more recoil than the usual suspects but none of these aspects are extreme. If I had a 375 I'd use it for moose. As it stands I've taken my 416 Rigby for moose (sadly I didn't get a shot) so there's no reason that e 375 wouldn't be a dandy.

Have a BRNO rifle and Sako full stock carbine in .375H&H ... never shot a moose with either but the BRNO worked very well on a small whitetail after I figured out how not to shoot over its shoulder. Poor unlucky fellow!! I missed my first crack at him (and it wasn't a very long shot)... and he disappeared pronto into the bush - but foolishly he decided to come back at the same time and same place to cross the cutting the next morning ... too bad for him! The 375H&H really is an all around cartridge causing minimal bloodshot meat and excellent effectiveness.
