so I've been bitten by the black bug real good, and well now I need a flashlight on my rifle or else I cant sleep at night.

My problem is all I can find are flashlights that take cr123 batteries and I don't like that. Haha I have a stockpile of AA and AAA batteries and would really like a flashlight that uses these. So any recommendations guys? also any dealers that carry them?

Thanks in advance!!

I too resisted the cr123 until i got a 50 pack on sale and now i NEED to use them. my vote is for the inforce wml it is awesome at $135
the only issue with my wml's is that each one is different shade of black. one is even grey?

Iinsight WL1 - AA series. They are not cheap but they are AA and very slim. Perfect to put on the rail at 12 'o clock. It also comes with strobe programming. It also has pressure pad kit as an option.

I'm curious why nobody mentions the sites like dx or manafont? I have a bunch of lights. Most are as good as the brand names, much brighter, and half the cost or less. Free shipping too.

I think you guys are right, I just need to start a new stock pile of cr123's haha

I think I'm going to get a surefire pro (forgot the model number) I like this one because it has a low/high and strobe. 45 hour runtime on low is my main selling point. Thanks again guys

I hate to admit to being a brand name whore, but Surefire is the only name I go with for those lights..... X300 on my glock, mini scout on the AR, the 870 weapons light on the 870 and just picked up a 6PX PRO for a belt light (do lots of night shifts). If you can find a place for the CR123's at not a total ripoff, stockpile, they're good for 10 years. 911 supply in calgary has them in stock and don't mark it up like crazy because its "tactical". They supply lots of stuff for the police here and don't gouge you on them.

Get what you like, but I recommend doing a bit more research first.

There has been a lot of thought into using light as both illumination and defensive tools.
Many people recommend momentary-on only for weapon mounted lights, or any defensive light, to simplify operation and quickly turn off the source of light which could give your position away.

If you want a robust, reasonably priced,AA light look at the Fenix LD 12 series. I've had one mounted on my 10.5 AR, right beside the flash hider for many thousands of rounds. It works perfectly and has taken a real beating being so close to the muzzle. I only wish they made one that is momentary on only. I'll post a pic when I have more time.

I have a fenix with a pressure pad that functions as a momentary only. Not AA but an awesome and durable flash light that runs for a long time.

Can't remember the exact model, TD or TK something. Been a while since I bought it...

I was using Inforce for awhile but could never get it exactly where I wanted it due to having to press the rear with my thumb. I'd have to change my grip, sometimes quite a bit, to turn it on.

I have a Fenix TK11 with pressure pad on my one upper which I use a great deal and it's hard to beat the price for the performance of them. My only complaint about them is the long cable on the pressure pad. Some electrical tape or elastics solve that though.

After upgrading to Surefire lights, I don't think there is anyway I could go back to anything else. I wouldn't change anything on them.

I was looking at lights and found this on another group who had the exact same question. why not use the X300 on a rifle. well this was thoroughly beaten down by guys who are mil/leo. you know the guys whose lives depend on gear. anyway here is an excellent response. I am not this guy
A few comments on using Surefire's Xseries lights on a rifle/carbine-

Most like the idea, and the reasons are numerous. It's bright, a hair lighter than the M 600, takes up less space, is mounted very close to the rail and are the least expensive "weapon rated" lights by Surefire. For most, these reasons alone are very attractive and from me you won't get an argument.
However, it's not all beer and skittles...
The weakest parts of the set up are how it mounts to the rail, the mounting plat and the end plate.

The light was designed for a pistol, these weaknesses are relatively transparent when used in that capasity. Here, the light sits snuggly in the 90 degree angle made by the trigger guard and the dust cover. If you were to have an impact related incident with the bezel/head portion of the light, that impact gets soaked up by the rear plate against the trigger guard, and not the mounting plate and rails.

However, on a R/C, the rail and mounting plate (both made of plastic) take all the brunt of the force. Also on a R/C, the end plate/switch stands alone and un-afraid. Not only is the trigger guard not there to provide a level of protection for it, but it's also the easiest switch to bump and have a light AD.
In my time at SF, I had 3 different organizations that loved the idea of running X300s (at the time) on a long gun, but had issues doing so. This was the real reason why we pushed M series lights for long guns. Sure, to the unknowing, it may have seemed like we pushed the M600C because "it's more expensive." Sorry guys, that's not true.

NOW, with the X300 U boat, I too am scratching my head as the juice may be worth the squeeze. But in the end, I think the Fury , in a proven mount, may be a better choice for an R/C if 500 lumens is wanted or required.
I'll more than likely continue to use my X series lights on pistols...and I'll wait patiently for the 500 lumen head for the Scout.

Ditto on this. I have been running the same set up with the Fenix TK11 on both my ARs. Didn't really want to sink the money into a surefire set up at the time. But I was getting bothered by how large the TK11 was and of course the issue with the long pressure pad cable. Tried a buddies Surefire 600 Scout on my gun for a week and was hooked. Puts out more light with a more focused beam with better ergonomics. Plus it is a bit lighter.

If you are going for more of a budget solution, I can recommend the Fenix TK series lights. They are tough and put out a good amount of light. Their weapon mounts and pressure switches are inexpensive. However looking into the surefire's is good idea if you feel the costs are warranted. I plan on setting up my Scout on a quick detach mount and having a Magpul MOE illumination kit with the pressure switch installed on both my ARs. If I want to switch to the other one, I'll just move the Scout over to that one and plug it in.

Surefire is great stuff. Have many and love them all. I cant think of a AA weaponlight.
Want to try the Inforce WML. Great reviews and is cheap compared to Surefire

Had some time to upload pics...

I think the mount is a JP Enterprises offset. I used a piece of hard rubber to wrap around the LD12 to make it fit the 1" Weaver ring. One thing to note with the LD12 is to make sure you rotate the soft key to the inside to minimize the likelihood that you will activate it after you set it to the desired intensity.

I picked up a diamond head rail from you and the inforce light works perfectly on the angled side with a small rail attached.
