hot 45 LC Load

OK Guys,
working on a hot load for my 45lc 1894 Marlin. (I usually do cowboy loads, but I guess I've got the itch again)
I started with moderate 44 mag data. 16.5 grains of 2400 for a 250grs hard cast bullet. (Nickel Cases)
No signs of over pressure on the Brass, Primer what so ever (I know the rifle will handle it).

I think I will top out at 18 grs of 2400!?

any suggestions?

If you use 44 Mag data in a 45 Colt, the resulting pressure (and MV) will be less than published for the 44 Mag.

Have a look at the Hogdon's reloading data site for the Ruger and Thompson Center only loads. Start at the bottom with these and work up. Don't use them in Colt SAA or their clones unless you have fingers you don't need.

Yup the Marlin will handle the heavy Ruger only loads no problem.

Because he wants to use 2400, and the Alliant site doesn't have data for the 45 Colt for anything but the weaker actions.

P.S. You can use 20 grs of 2400 with that bullet in the 45 Colt, and still be below the pressures that you'd get with a 44 Mag.

Found the sweet spot at 19grains 2400.

I use H110 in my 45, 23.5gr pushing 340GC big boy

Please be aware the H110 and 296 produce very low velocities in cold weather....

I used to load 19.0 grains of H 2400 behind a hard cast 260 grain Keith style semi wadcutter and magnum primers. Velocity was recorded at 1050 fps and the notation in my logbook states Good Accurate Load. This was in an Old Model Ruger Blackhawk with 4 5/8 inch barrel. No signs of pressure and this became my standard load for this gun.
