So my little Hornady ultrasonic has been outgrown for awhile now. I decided to roll the dice on a new bigger unit. I ordered an all stainless 6.5l unit from aliexpress. I know your all going to say its Chinese crap (where do you think Hornady gets them from?). It looks solidly built, few spelling mistakes on the unit (whatever), stainless basket, analog timer from 1min to 30 min, brass ball valve for draining. Shipped to my door in under 7 days with no customs or extra charges $199. I will update this soon with how it works, I have a 1000 .45 cases to clean once I decap them. And it will fit a full size 1911 with room to spare.

AWESOME! I gots to get me one of these! Looking forward to the post cleaning review. I've heard people using the water, dishsoap, salt and vinegar solution with pretty good results.

That solution is what I use in my smaller unit with no problems.

Ok so I had the chance to decap and resize all the .45 brass I had on the 650 last night (1500 or so rounds of range brass). Took me about 1.5 hrs, gotta love the dillon. The cleaner comfortably holds 500-600 .45 acp cases. I ran 3 batches of this for 10 min each.

Here is a cross section of the cleanest piece and the dirtiest after a 10 min cycle

Those new to ultrasonics, this is typical for large batches. Not as shiny as tumbling, but they will function just as well. Next time I will run them 20 min each batch and see if this makes a difference. The solution I use is a simple vinegar, water, and dish soap mix. I rinse in hot water and baking soda in the bath tub (check with the wife first or make sure you scrub the tub before she finds out).

So the little abandon'd one, what is it and how muchy?

Not sure if I'm going to sell it yet. Might just keep it as a back up or for doing small parts. The thing about ultrasonics is you have to fill them or you can damage the inductors (not sure if that's the proper word) so the small unit is useful if I'm just doing fireing pins and the like, don't always want to have to mix up 6.5l worth of solution.

Transducers...but you're right. Running them empty will do damage. Nothing for the transducer to work against, and so, runs unfettered.

My small unit, wife's jewellery cleaner actually, gave up the ghost. I picked up the RCBS 3 litre unit at Cabela's in Maine. Ultrasonic cleaners are great units for getting everything clean in almost no time. Minute and a half degas and 5 minutes run time at 50 degrees c with two tbsp of Lemishine gets my filthy .303 brass squeaky clean.

The vinger can turn the brass green over time... so soak it in baking soda and water after...

Pretty impressive all right - the possibilities for cleaning stuff is awesome, comps come to mind! Good purchase!

I don't care if brass is shiny either but i want it clean so it doesn't scratch my dies. I'm still good setting the tumbler overnight and having clean brass in the morning - yep gotta keep an inventory but it's not a problem.

I dislike wet cleaning because brass is too squicky clean and it needs more lube to operate smoothly.

Pistol brass just corncob tumbled with some brass polish will resize way easier with less lube.

Ultrasonics are aresome for cleaning gun parts though.

Someone at work told me that shooting with dirty-ish brass is the same as shooting with a fouled barrel (distance shooting). He is on the opinion that brass that is too clean won't shoot quite as well as brass that was tumbled.
