The ORA completed CQB match 7 for 2013 today. 64 shooters enjoyed actually quite decent shooting weather for another excellent match. Following the shooting portion of the day was followed by a catered BBQ with prime rib and lamb. Fantastic food and wow, lots of it.

Big thanks to the ARO, RSO, MD and Stat for organizing and making sure things ran smooth as always.

Just because this was the championship, it does not mean CQB is done for the season. There a still a couple of matches scheduled so the ORA CQB fun isn't done yet.

Hey you match winnerz:

If you don't want the 'moon cake' , let me know! I'm addicted to it. I'm super stoked that they were part of the Timfoo prize package. To heck with the trophies and plaques, they just gather dust. I wanna eat, and that's why my nickname is Hungry! :D

We still have a lot of fun today!

Cheers,
barney

Perfect weather! Not hot, excellent light and no mud. Was it just me, or was Tim yelling less than usual?

My son had a fancy camera that took bursts of pictures. We tried to capture muzzle flashes, brass flying, etc.

The sling hooked popped open and dropped the rifle in the sand while I was retrieving the targets. I poked the sand out of the muzzle hole. The next time I fired, all the brake ports blew clear.

This brake has no side ports. All the ports are on the front plate, around the muzzle. Noise is reduced and most importantly, when shooting modified prone, there is no blow back of dirt. It works well. From S& J Hardware.

My rifle scores are fairly good - except for the shooting on the move relay. Where I take a pounding is on pistol scores. The first pistol transition often gets me no points at all. This is frustrating because I am usually a pretty good pistol shot. The problem is that when I shoot under time stress, my group shifts to the side.

Yesterday my groups were a full foot to the right of the bull. This was such a big shift I thought that my sights must have been knocked. I shot the next target aimed at the side of the head, for the head shot, and got a centered bull. This convinced me my sights were off.

Today I shot another target at 25 yards, to quantify how much I have to move the sight. An almost perfectly centered group. (M&P40)

My deliberate shooting uses a "press" to trip the trigger, not a "slap". A "slap"moves the group to the side. Also, with some of my pistols, if stick my finger too far into the trigger, the group shifts to the left. I have to do a lot of practice, shooting fast, while maintaining the "press" release.
