good ol .303 brit still gettin the job done

Wouldn't want an 18.5 inch barrel, but there ain't no game in North America, big bears included, that a .303 won't kill.

The 18.5" barrel throws freaking fireballs at dusk LOL
So much fun hehehe
I built my first 18.5" from a buggered up lithgow. That was a few years ago and another hunter owns her as his canoe rifle. This one is the third one I've done, but the only one I built from scratch, bare receiver on up.

Initially the choice for this barrel length was to hunt a particular location where I just sit on a rock and the blacktail deer just walk on by. Shots from 10 to "maybe" 60 yards.
The hike in and out is no fun and very thick bush... But worth it. In that bush and very steep terrain, a short compact rifle is just so much handier. Also , the configuration is just the right gun, for that particular spot, for the deer I encounter there.

That and I've noticed that droppin the velocity on the 180 gr winchester super SP makes it a real nice wallop at under 60 yards, without too much damage.
I've hunted same spot for many years as the deer are migrating. Have killed em with .308 and overgunned it with 7mm rem mag.
The only times they haven't dropped right away is using the .308 and 7mm rem mag. The .303 180gr out of a 18.5" barrel drops close range deer so effectively (for me) , it's what actually made me build the rifle this time ;)

Also, the rifle in the deer pic fits in the gun grabbers on the front of my yamaha grizz 550 without sticking out past the fenders... Bent barrel prevention hehehe

It's always been a No4 Lee Enfield for me....'43 Longbranch to be specific
I've put just about every type of ammo through it but the Winchester CXP3 180gr is what I normally hunt with.
Even my back-up is a No5 Jungle Carbine , done up slightly

The back-up...

Congrats to you and your wife on the deer, Lee Enfields have probably taken more game in Canada than any other rifle out there. I started with one myself and still use it on occasion.

and the custom .303 strikes again :D

BC region 6 Bull Moose, oct 21 2013 , 180gr winchester supreme 303 brit. 1 shot 1 kill :D

I just realized that the only rifles I've ever hunted with are milsurp nothing wrong with that but the deer im most proud of is one I took with my no4 mk1 that was handed down from my great grandfather and my cast handloads .303 dose the job

I'm surprised the 303 had enough power to get er done. I thought you needed a 300 win mag or bigger for deer! Just kidding of course, the 303 has more than enough punch, good huntin.

Got a internet post recently about a guy in the Yukon who shot what COULD be a new world record moose. Guess what he shot it with? HINT: NOT a super dooper screamin magnum with big ass telescopic sight. But it was just as dead.
