just bought a vz52/57

If it's not been bubba'd, you got a great deal --- Vz 52/57s with one mag usually run $550+. Corwin Arms recently brought in some spare mags, but until then, spare mags were hard to find and pricey.
Check your serial numbers to see if they all match: left side of buttstock, inside of front handguard, oprod (sheet metal under handguard), receiver, bolt, bolt carrier.
There aren't many fully-matching Vz 52/57's --- usually at least the front handguard is mismatched.
Also, check the buttstock compartment to see if you have the full cleaning kit, including the carbon scraper.
Enjoy your rifle, and remember, if you shoot corrosive, make sure the area under the piston/gas port is well-cleaned as I've seen a number that have seized due to rust.

handguard and bolt/carrier do not match. I did not see a number on the receiver. Unfortunately the stock was empty. I know about the corrosive, Its now on the rack below my 858, and half dozen sks.
Thats a wild looking scope. I've read a bit about the IR scopes. Thats the light on the top, right?

The serial number should be on the front right side of the receiver. There's also a manufacturer's name and year (e.g., SHE 57) marked in the same spot.
Yes, that's the IR illuminator and filter on the top of the scope. It's cumbersome, to say the least, but a neat bit of cold war era kit.
Oops.... get my part names mixed ... I was looking at the receiver cover (like stamped on an sks) , but yes its a SHE '59... And 'neat bit' sure is an understatement!! ... I dont even own a half assed quality scope for any of my rifles, let alone period correct optics...

From the sound of things you got a vey good deal I'm quite jealous.
That IR scope looks pretty cool, it must draw alot of attention at the range. Does it work? What does it look like using it at night? Don't tell you've never pretended to be a cold war sniper at night. Pew pew pewpew! Haha i got you squirl and you though i couldnt see at night!
