So I went online on Sept 29 and ordered my white tail and moose tag. I got drawn for moose in 21 this year. After I entered my info, and gave them my visa I tried to print all of my licenses. The only license that came up was my HAL. Not the white tail or moose. I phone in and they tell me that because I didn't go to a vendor first and get the seals, the site mails the license and seals to me. 6 or 8 WEEK WAIT! So the nice lady on the phone tells me that they are flooded with people who made the same mistake and they can issue a refund, but there's only 2 guys who can do the refund and they are swamped and not answering their phones. Long story short I might get screwed out of my moose tag this year. Yes I made a mistake but I don't think it was so bad as to warrant this punishment. FYI if I go to a vendor to try and get my license, they will say it's already issued. I thought the licensiing system going online was going to be easy. What's the difference if it still requires a trip to a vendor?

Anyone else in the same boat?

It can't be a very good system if they are now flooded with people who made the same mistake. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! What a gang of clowns.

What a failure of a system. Do they have it clearly written that you have to go to a vendor first? Do they realize any human being that is going to drive to a vendor is just going to buy their tags from the vendor? Are the refund guys going to be OK? I have so many questions...

in BC they will be moving to a paper one like the fishing so it's just a print out that turns into a ball when it gets wet... Here you go officer.. it's a small ball but it's the right one :p So instead of a book with stickers they will just be 1 full page print out that's what they all seem to be moving towards makes it simpler and way cheaper for them ie cuts cost since your printing it out. That's why they want to do it that way then when it's all online it makes it easier to look things up since they have a filing system right now and it's hard to find things to check things.

You think it's bad for you, trying being out of province. I bought my duck licence and conservation stamp.............paper licence and then a sheet of paper to inventory every bird you shoot in the season. I can just see myself......flock of ducks come in....shoot one mallard, write it down..........shoot a snow goose, write it down............stupidest system I have ever seen. Even worse is that they've displaced Canadian jobs............You want to call in to get your licence? Great! You'll talk to a nice lady in Tennessee.......

When I was doing my elk tag online (i had picked up the seals earlier) it wouldn't accept my seal number when I was filling it out online. So I phoned the help line to see if maybe I was entering the wrong number or something. When I explained my problem (Hi, I'm trying to purchase my elk license online but it won't accept my seal number), she told me that you don't need seals. I said yes you do, head/antler, meat and hide. She told me ducks don't have antlers. I said I know, I'm trying to buy an elk license. She told me oh you need to get seals first. I said I did. And it won't accept the seal number. She told me draw elk the seals are sent to you. I said I wasn't doing draw, just regular season. She said she would try to do it on her end, I wanted draw caribou correct? As this conversation was happening I was still trying to get it working. Just as she mentioned draw caribou my purchase went through correctly. I quickly told her everything was good and hung up before I was charged money for my antlerless draw duck caribou license. Buddy was sitting in the room and when I hung up just looked at me and said "wtf?"

I wish I was making this up for shiggles and gits.

I also don't like the fact that the HAL system has no password. Enter in anyone of several ID numbers (HAL, drivers, health card number amongst others) and a birth date and you are in. Not exactly hard to do. And while I can't think of anything nefarious to do with someone's HAL account (change the address? see what tags I have paid for?) it is no one's buisness but mine what licenses I have purchased and such.

Kust my .02$

Gong show!!!!....I had my doubts about this new system,so I picked up my whitetail tag early in August @ the SERM office! No mistake's when you deal with the source personally.

Agreed. Hunted 20 years now and it's not that difficult. Some people just don't like change, and like it or not, our old system was antiquated. Give it a few years and she's good to go.

And what paperwork? Now you have one single piece of paper with all your licenses, and tags. It's actually less. No stickers and a licence that if you lose it, you can print again instead of having to go to SERM to get a replacement.

system is pretty simple overall, if you understand the process. If you can't be bothered to read instructions or take the time to learn the new system, then sure you've got something to complain about. A little advance planning and there is no wait. I was drawn for moose in 59. A few days later I went online, printed my licenses, ordered tags to be sent in the mail, including extra tags for upcoming years. Moose and deer seals came already registered to my license numbers, and were in my mailbox in 4 days.

Your best option is to not wait until the evening of 2 days before your season starts...

Draw seals are sent to you? Just picked up my seals and got the gal at CDNtire to print out my draw Elk tag, maybe mailing out the seals has been changed? This is going to be interesting.

Oh I have no idea if they are sent or not. I wasn't drawn for anything this year and so I never investigated. And based on my whole experience on the call I wouldn't take what she said as fact.

I agree that the new system is more convenient and simple. As someone mentioned lose your paperwork, just reprint. I just don't like certain aspects of it. How easy it is to get into someone's account and the, based on my personal experience, shoddy help line service. I understand though that my experience could be an isolated incident with one employee.

I think that you only have to inventory the sharptails and huns. But the system is going to take some getting used to.

Hopefully they get the kinks worked out as the on-line licencing system is awesome. We've had it in Alberta now for a few years and it's so convenient and simple. I will never go to the store again to pick up licences. Just too convenient from home.

And no more seals! The on-line purchase combined with the blank "tags" are probably the best system going. Print your license, copy the species and license number and you're out the door. Everyone keeps extra "wires" in their gear. No more waiting in line, buy them at 0330 in the morning if you feel like it.

Head down your local CO office and they will fix it. I had a lengthy discussion about this at the Moose Jaw branch and they said you wont miss a season that they can fix you up. Nothing like having to deal with guys in Tenessee USA for your Sask deer tags. Outsourcing jobs when the prior way was perfectly acceptable and done by local Saskatchewan residents.
