Which red rifle packs the most punch that is relatively affordable? The biggest round I have for a red rifle is the mosin/svt-40 7.62 x 54R. Is there a bigger round in a bolt action.

7.62x54r was used as a sniper round.

If you want more kick with affordability, M44 (a shortened Mosin Nagant)

It was also used as a machine gun round and a rifle round and a semi auto round.. It's been used for almost everything...

For common, affordable, non-restricted options you have the 7.62x54R or the 7.62x39, both of which use .311" or 7.65mm diameter bullets, similar to a 303 British, but if you handload it's wise to actually check your barrel dimensions, again like a 303.

The 7.62x54R has the most muzzle energy, but usually uses heavier bullets with lower muzzle velocity than a 308 or modern 30-06. Because it is rimmed, be gentle when you load your magazine.

In this chambering, likely choices are Mosin-Nagant, SVT, and Dragunov rifles.

"...rifle packs the most punch..." For what? The Russians used the 7.62 x 54 in bolt actions just about exclusively for the past 100 plus years. There really isn't anything else.
"...Ptrs-41..." The man said affordable.

7.62x54 is about the same power as 308 or 30-06. That is a lot of power. If you doubt it, try it in a M44.....

I love the M44 and the carbine makes a great little truck/bush gun but I'm finding the energy and velocities are slightly lower because of the shortened barrel. It doesn't make any difference in general for a hunting shot, but there is a difference.

I think you can scratch the Dragunov there! They are Prohib. OP should be looking at the SVT-40 period. Chambered in 7.62x54 and a good deal right now.
