Nothing, Canadian dealers like to charge a premium for Tan versions, that price is ridiculous.
Buy a standard black/blued (non phosphated) version and get it ceracoated whatever color you want.
Elwood Epps website shows they have 4 TRG-42's in 338LM for $3700 (black with blued finish) or a lightly used Green/Phosphate TRG-42 in 338LM for $4450.
Last time I was in Del Selin's shop they had a new TRG-42 .338LM (Black with phosphate finish) for $4549
I've seen the TRG bipods on U.S. sites for $415. The last 34mm 3-ring mount I bought out of the U.S. cost $360 shipped to my door. In fact my NIB desert tan TRG 42 with a Sako bipod and muzzle brake cost me $3750 to my door when I imported it out of the States. Beretta USA had a promo package put together for $3250 and the rest was fee's, duty's and shipping.
I wouldnt spend a penny supporting a Canadian retailer trying to charge $700 for the bipod or $550 for the mount. Even the magazines up here cost $100 more. Bunch of thieving D-bags as far as I'm concerned.
Last time I was in there I asked them why their TRG-22s were so much more than at Wholesale Sports. They said it was because they paid way more for them. Fair enough answer I suppose, but still a funny way to do business. I guess they dont mind sitting on the inventory until someone comes along who doesn't do any price comparisons before buying.
TRG's are great rifles, but not worth what retailers are asking.
You have to buy the rifle, then a bipod (usually the Sako), then a muzzle brake, then a scope mount or rail....then add taxes to it all!
By this time you can build whatever you want with top shelf components.
I still don't get how phosphate finish is so much more...it's just a process as is the polishing and bluing.
