taking a white tail with a 22-250

Just a question here... Regardless of markmanship skills (which many more people think they have than actually have them in real hunting situations)... How much of a blood trail is a 22-250 going to leave?

Lots of calibers work for headshots at night via spotlight, most locals where I live(MB) use small calibers. Maybe you're one of them?

You are not a typical Manitoba hunter.I hope anyone reading this believes that. You and guys like you, should do the walk of shame you poor ______!

Throwing this out to the "shot placement" guys.... Does this mean I can kill anything with a slingshot or .177 pellet rifle?... Sewriously, there must be a minimum criteria somewhere?...

Guess that depends how good of a shot you are huh?

Either a 50 gr TSX or a 60 gr Partition work fine on deer out of a 220 Swift, so I see no reason they wouldn't out of a 22-250. In fact, no noticable difference between the Swift and a 243 for that matter. In the future though, I think I'll go with either the 50 or 55 gr TTSX, I like the idea of the plastic tip better on the small X's.

Well Brad, you were the one who brought up .177 air guns, so there's a coyote killed with a big springer.

As far as a minimum, somewhere, as you asked - if an appropriate bullet can get to vitals on the angles you are wanting to take, then that would be acceptable, no?

Confused... What is your pic of a dead coyote supposed to tell me about the effectiveness of a 22-250 on deer or why shot placement is the only important factor?

And really, you don't have to point out that you are confused, that's evident already. Pretty sure that no one has said that placement is the only factor. Fair positive that that most folks have also made the point of bullet construction being important as well. Unless perhaps you are being deliberately obtuse?

Wowzers!!
"look, a distraction!!" -I just re-read that whole epic episode of Todbartel & his physically/mentally disabled son-

As for the 22-250, If it works use it. If I could here in Gods country I would!! There are a some decent boolits out there to use that are ideal for taking larger than "yote" game.

Read through the thread again... Plenty of folks in here preaching shot placement as the most important, if not only factor...

Nice shot with the air rifle... Nice looking set up too...

Air rifle, I've always liked that term. It's like calling a gas jockey a "Petroleum Transfer Engineer".
Call it what you like, I'd not want to stand in front of one at 100 yards and call it out on a dare........

Regardless, there isn't a whitetail walking the planet that will shrug off a tsx tossed from a 22-250. And I strongly suspect that 100% of hunters can shoot a 22-250 much better than they can shoot a 300 mag, which allows for better shot placement, which ends up with bullets going where they should, not wherever the rifle happens to be pointed when the trigger is yanked.
