Pemberton hunters.... the deer need your help!!! calling all predator hunters

I see a Y about 2.4 clicks up the road, then it keeps switchbacking up and continues. I can send you a screenshot.

Sorry, the Creek or the ROAD is at 90?

(Yes, I go through this with almost every sighting)

Hehehe, I'm not posting the GPS coordinates to "my rock" on the forum hehehe but if you can wait a couple days till I get home and unpacked, I'll pm them to you.

But yes I think you have the right area.

Wonder how that's going to go for you.....After admitting to killing wildlife and making no attempt at retrieval. Pretty big deal in BC, with CO's.

Good luck.

The CO (Peter, from that area) has clearly stated that he has no reason to follow up on the actual shooting of or at the animals. However he found the wolf behavior to be very out of the norm. I did what most hunters don't do.... And that was to call them the minute I was at a land line with the details, location and the offer to hike back to the site with the CO.
Wolves aren't edible so I don't believe the big game retrieval laws regarding removing the "edible portions" applies here.
We were not wolf hunting, we were deer hunting and were put in a self defense situation plain and simple.
Also, rock climbing or rappelling gear will probably be required to descend the terrain in the immediate spot where the first 2 went.
Well, I'm hittin the hwy home, 6 hour drive home, then it's prepping for this weekend's hunting and next weeks moose trip.
Play safe out there boys n gals, hittem where it counts ;)

Not a meat issue, it's a furbearer hide removal thing, so yeah, some retrieval is required.

Given the number of wuff's around the province, you likely got lucky with the CO.

Good on you for smacking some dogs though.

That's the reason I called them, to ensure I wasn't in violation for the non retrieval.
The dozen or so mushroom picker camps on the valley floor a km down would have no doubt been wondering what the sudden erruption of simultaneous gun fire right at last shooting light was all about LOL
My second concern was for them as all they have for "defense" is little bells , bear spray and bear bangers. Only a couple of those folks carry a firearm.

In BC we have had 3 known incidents this season with pine muchroom pickers disappearing into thin air, despite massive search efforts. In both cases, the pickers were known to be familiar with the remote and difficult terrains they were picking in.
There's ample deer to feed the wolves and the locals won't be too concerned was the response from the lady on the RAPP line when I called to report the incident.
I wasn't too impressed by her comments and disregard for what could be a big issue for a lone mushroom picker or solo hunter in that area.

As for retrieval in general.... It's buggin the piss outta me that we weren't able to locate the carcasses. It was Not done in disregard, we did make an attempt, following sign to a drop off of over 100 feet. Well, 38 yards on the range finder.
As I type this, I'm trying to clear it with the wife and arrange to meet a friend from pemby and might take the long way home and hike back in to the location from down below. It's very steep and can be treacherous terrain so it may not be so easy. If we find em.... I'll surely take some pics

As per regs on wolves in that area? (To answer a couple pm's) 3 wolf bag limit per hunter WITH compulsory report/inspection.

Any luck on those digits?

I'm still many hours from home brutha, and only have my crackberry for internet. That and cylinder 1 in my jeep decided to bite the bullet yesterday when I went to hit the hwy. It's a good thing the place I'm staying has a full shop out back and 3 guys who know how to re n re a inline 6 overnight.
The plan is to hit the hwy this afternoon for the 6 hour drive home, but I gotta stop in and visit my mom on way. It's been almost a year.
So.... You'll hear from me tomorrow night or saturday ;)

Yeah, you should copy this to huntingbc. There are a number of us that hunt that area and we all like to keep tabs on the wolf packs around here, and some trappers set snares in that area too. The area you hunt has a growing but still small moose population. No doubt the wolves have been hitting them too.

I'm kinda a one forum kinda guy, if it wasn't for my blackberry, I'd almost be a no forum kinda guy LOL as most, like 99% of my CGN activity is on my mobile.

That said, feel free to copy and paste what you need to, or pm me directly for more specifics.

As an update, plagued with vehicle issues on route home, I finally made it early sat morning.
Tony went up with his son on sat evening for a sunday day hunt. He talked to a few hunters in the same area as the incident and no one reported hearing the wolves over this past weekend. I'm hoping one of the ones we hit was the alpha, maybe that'll make em think twice next time they happen upon a hunter in their path LOL

OK ACPKING, I got your digits and entered it. Funny how they'd be so bold when there's been a trapper working them hard for several years. Highly unusual, to say the least.
Did you report them to the CO at the end? What was his response?

Hi
so is this just a little way up the Hurley road I'm new to hunting up that way always went the other way out of the valley but have a goat draw up in 3-33 so will be passin through and it's always worth a try on the foxpro for wolves thanks

I'm pretty sure the pack was hot on the scent of a deer and fully expected to be catching up to it. Seeing my movement ahead on the trail... They must have assumed I was the animal they were after. I was in full camo head to toe, face and hands, so movement might have been the trigger to the 3 wolves charging right at me with intent LOL

First thing I did when I got into a cell service area, was to call the ministries RAPP line to report a conflict with wildlife, my call was recorded.
2nd thing was a call back from Squamish CO's office to further explain the event and location in detail.
After leaving a detailed record of the event and location with the CO's office in squamish. As for hunting violations regarding the shooting and non retrieval.... The response was "no follow up required"
He was pretty curious about the wolves behavior however.

Personally, I've spent my life around large breed dogs, from st bernards, corso mastiffs, mastiff/arctic wolf, dobermans and rottweillers. I have 2 100 pound plus rottweillers.... And none of the above even comes close to the size of the animals we encountered. Still sinkin in and actually can't stop thinkin about it LOL

I don't see what the big deal is here. I know a few guys, myself included, that had wolves run at them, right past them or come from behind them. It happens all the time in wolf country, especially when you are hunting/calling/wearing urine all over your body/camouflaged sitting by a decoy/have your dog with you......I have shot wolves right off my dog before at work in the middle of a lease in the middle of the day. They can be horribly aggressive, to anything that moves. Anyways have fun with your wolf problem, and welcome to the club.
