The Norinco AR15's are still really expensive over here in NZ ($2000NZ) so I am now looking at a new MAK90 with a Choate stock. Anyone have any opinions on these? They certainly look great and will be rugged. I imagine accuracy with the basic open sights will be minute of goat but that's fine. The MAK90's in .223 are only $1000nz so I am seriously tempted.

I used to have a .223 Norc back in the day, side folder version. Lots of sharp edges but it was an AK and I never had any issues with the gun itself. Wished it was chambered in 7.62x39 but if you're looking for a blaster that's reliable and you can get cheap mags I say go for it. For the record I beat the crap out of a Norc M4 two years back and I could'nt get it to malfunction either...

I had the same type of gun as Sparrow (had one in 762x39 too), the 556 AK's are very solid. The one I had ejected brass very, very vigorously - it broke a light bulb on a range shelter that must have been 10 feet above me on one occasion. At the time I didn't reload, so I wasn't looking at the brass condition, could be very hard on brass.

I would love to have the Chinese AR15...but the cost is just too high, unless I sell my M305 and get rid of some other stuff.....hmmm, I would prefer the AR15 over the Mak90.....

mak90 is a good choice. There were a lot of 19" barrel 7.62x39/223 ak's brought into Canada and the cost was very reasonable, about $400.00 and the mags were $10.00 for either 223 or 7.62x39 The guns are of a proven design and norinco did a good job of making them You wont go wrong buying one

I would keep the 305 and get the MAK ... when I was in my teens and 20s I had to have a CAR-15, now I would give up my entire collection to get my Valmet M76 or a real AK back.

Its a rifle ?

Its a toilet seat ?

Its BOTH !

Yeah it is a tough decision. The Norc AR15 will be more accurate but the MAK90 just oozes cool and would run like a dream. I've only had SKS's in the past so having a MAK90 would be very nice. But....those damn Norc AR's are soooo good!

Make sure it is indeed a genuine MAK-90 made by Norinco and not a Polytech masquerading as one. The latter never got their sh*t sorted with the .223 versions and are known to run poorly, plus magazines are very expensive and difficult to find. The .223 Norincos are good to go.
