Okay if I cut the barrel off at 18 1/2 or 18 5/8, and then thread about the last 2" and make a muzzle brake the screws over the threaded end. Does that still make my sks. Legal, (NR) because my barrel is still 18 1/2, or will they measure from the back of the brake. Which would be 16 5/8 at the back of the brake. Just trying to get the short barrel " look " with a legal 18 1/2 " barrel.
Also I read awhile back that bullpup stocks are not legal in Canada, unless they are manufactured that way, or does it have to be integrated parts of the rifle( like contains the trigger and hammer, safety etc.)
I think everyone know where I'm going with this.
So the more responds the better! Thanks for looking.

The barrel is measured, not the brake. If it shrouds back over the barrel so be it. You can buy and install fake suppressors that shroud over the barrel giving the suppressed shorty look. I also remember someone doing what you're asking with a CZ and counter boring the barrel and drilling the brake ports into the counterbored portion. This was ok'd by the RCMP because the barrel had not been shortened. I guess I could have just said "yes" lol. As for the bullpup question, no aftermarket bullpup conversion stock is legal in Canada. Key word conversion. Factory built bullpups that do not function without the stock are not conversions. The receiver is part of the stock. So yes you can cut to 18.5" and shroud a brake or anything else back over the barrel but you can't put it in a bullpup stock. Yes it sucks and no it doesn't make any sense unless you're a bats**t crazy emotionally driven psychopath control freak. Like Wendy. Looking forward to your project.

I've often wondered if it would be legal to convert an SKS to a bull pup by welding all the bull pup parts to the receiver. I definitely don't want to be the test.case in court though.

Thanks for the responds, turbo_bird, that was my idea. To make a lower receiver that integrated the trigger group, hammer etc. But under Canadian laws, if it wasn't built at the factory...... Is it legal?

Because the laws are intentionaly vague it is really hard to say The consequences for being wrong could include the loss of your PAL for good or even Jail time.
