Best sub $1000 1911 opinions.

The Remington R1 Enhanced is by far the nicest under $1000 1911 i have ever seen .. Ruger SR1911 is nice too

I agree, this gun is extremely impressive for under $1000.

I also second the STI Spartan.

Can't say anything good or bad about STI, Ruger or Remington because I've never used one. My favorites are Springfields in the under $1000 category. Solid guns, good fit and finish. A used Springfield is a better buy than a new Kimber imho. Personal preference probably, lots of folks like Kimbers.

Add my voice to the recommendation for either the Spartan or the Ruger. Both great guns for the money.

Hard choices.... after ~ 30 yrs of 1911 interest & having owned at least 100 different ones in that time, if I was just starting out I'd look at:

STI Spartan
Ruger SR1911
Remington R1 enhanced

And not necessarily in that order...lol...

On the topic of the SAM 1911a1, does any else notice how damn heavy this thing is? As in, heavier than other 1911's? I'm wondering if different steel is used.

Larry Vickers says that Kimber has more issues than Time Magazine. I would say to go with a used Colt or a Remington R1. I have both and really enjoy them. Good quality.

Same...I just picked up a Gen 4 Glock 21 and it is a great gun and deadly accurate...I realize it's not a 1911 but it's .45 ACP and it's a great gun.
