steyr M95 short rifle marking?

hello

does anyone know what this marking is on top of the S it looks like a number 2. what does it mean? its on a steyr m95 short rifle.

It means it has been converted to 8X56r from 8x50r.

You are right, that is what is signified by the "S" stamp. I do like the clear 1917 stamp date and Austro-hungarian eagle. I do not have those "2" markings on any of my M95s so it may just be a worker mark perhaps for your short rifle ?

its hard to tell . all the ones I have seen on the net don't have it. its like a 2 over top another mark?

Read a little too quick there...I can't say for sure what that stamp means.
