Has anybody tried to modify The magazine system on a Sako 85. I am really considering buying one, but the magazine system really annoys me. I know everyone says I will get used to the magazine system after a while, but iwould rather just not have it. In case anybody is wondering what I'm referring to, I believe Sako calls it the total control latch or something like that.

If it's not broke why fix it? I have no issue with the Sako 85 magazine, it works flawlessly! What is it exactly not you like about it?

I find it awkward to push up on the magazine in order to remove it. I would rather just push the button and have it fall into my hand. And yes I understand why Sako designed it that way. But I don't care for it.

Uh, pound the positive lock dimple out and it should be just fine. I'd play with it until you get used to it rod. It's the only sporting magazine system I truly appreciate. Otherwise I have floorplates and blind mags.

I have been eyeing up the Finnbear model in 30/06. But the only fault (for me) is the magazine latch. I would definitely give it a chance before I disable it.

I have a sako 85 laminate stainless and would have to say the mag. release is a non issue.
It's just a slight upwards pressure on the magazine, pull the tab and the mag drops cleanly out into the palm of your hand.
I don't even think about it, it just happens.

I've owned an 85 and a few 75's.

I didn't modify my 85 but all it would take is a file and 10 minutes to tear it apart and remove the small lip from the mag catch.

I would modify it if I ever own another 85.

I have an 85, and I quite like the mag detach. Why would you want to change it ? How many times a day are you dropping your mag ? I like that it basically will not come out unless you push then pop. I don't want to leave one in the bush.

Unless you hunt in a truck with a loaded clip in the gun I don't see a problem. Load your clip go hunting and when your done take it out, where's the problem there?
