Hello, looking for a new 308 bolt (bench) gun... accurate out of the box .. (not Interested in another project too many on the go to begin with :p..

Must be:
-accurate
-308
-any type of mag/floorplate/etc not fussy on this
-good trigger

Don't want:
- "x rifle is great if you just add a ....."
- rem 700 (bad experience with a friends, I know ridiculous but hey...it's my money :p and Rem's seem to be a project $$)

My budget is 900$ (have the glass covered (decent optic for now)) bushnell legend 4.5-14 <it's served me well thus far.
This rifle will be used for 95% bench, weight is not an issue
Ranges from 50-300yrds

Been looking at Savage...but really want some other/any ideas...(or more about your experiences with savage)

Look at the Ruger Single-shot .308 Target Rifle. Laminated stock with a wide fore-end.

I would seriously consider the Savage. Although I don't own one in .308, my .223 Axis and my 111 in 30-06 are awesome. 9/16 groups with the Axis @ 100 yards is no effort. Two weekends ago I was smoking a swinger 8 out of 10 shots at 1100 yards with the 30-06. (hand loads of course)
 
I ordered the Tikka T3 Lite myself. I hear good things about those. I'm waiting on mine at the moment with a stainless barrel so I won't have first hand experience with it yet, but like I said, I hear good things about it. I think Tikka guarantees MOA accuracy with any factory ammo.

Same action just outfitted differently, the 12s being marketed as varmint and target rifles the 10s for law enforcement/tactical. Both models come with heavy target type barrels the 12s longer at 26 to 30 inches.

I bought my first Savage this year a model 16fcss (again same action) just getting it going and its really showing accuracy potential with its sporter barrel. If in your shoes I'd look closely at a model 10 or 12. You say you're not in to a project so get one with the accustock and accutrigger. Done. Fits your budget too.. :)

where did you order your tikka? All the places i see are out of stock of them in 308 win

I had to order through the IRunGuns US site. It should be going through initial import and shipping at this time. It took me forever to find as well. I believe Pro Line in Calgary has some in 308, but not with stainless barrels. I was also able to find them with laminate stocks at one point before they sold. It looks like IRunGuns still has stock. P&D looks to have a couple in stock (one left hand) with blued barrels.
