Best "low-maintenance" AR available?

To be honest, I know next to nothing about guns since I'm a total newb to this sport...but I do know myself.

I'm sure when I get my first AR I will clean it after every shoot but in a few months after the honeymoon phase has run its course I will revert to the lazy sod I truly am.

My budget is about $1200...$1500-$1700 if I tighten my belt a little. I prefer a 10.5" barrel...give or take an inch or two is acceptable.

With that in mind, what is my best option?
 
With chrome lining many ar's are quite low maintenance.

I really only clean mine after wet weather showing...and before big matches
 
Their all the same buy a norc and beat the crap out of it then decide if you want to buy a more expensive one that does the same thing except itll make the mall ninjas at your range get tacticool hard on
 
DPMS Oracle. Its only $150 more then a Norinco and in my opinion much better build quality. I sold my norc and bought the dpms. spent another $200 on magpul crap and it looks pretty cool. Zero problems so far. *but my norinco never had any failures either , just think the fit and finish is better on the dpms*

+1. Why people go crazy cleaning guns I will never understand. Mine get cleaned when they get dirty or wet. It takes a lot more than the typical afternoon at the range to get a gun dirty.

Skip the Norinco, you have a decent budget. You can get a Core15 or a RRA, save up a few more pennies and get a DD, Ruger SR556E, There are plenty of options. Personally I would skip NEA or Norinco, but everyone has their opinion, I just don't like bottom of the line items when you can spend a bit more and get a much nicer rifle.

because when i bring them to bed to cuddle and fall asleep with they won't get fouling on the bedsheets (white bedsheet test) :D
 
Any quality AR is low maintenance... Not like you're shooting corrosive ammo through an unlined Mosin...

Technically a piston gun would be a little cleaner/cooler, but it's not like you're going to be rocking 1000s of rounds of full auto... I would suggest you look for a STOCK AR on the EE, though they are rare... You never know if Franken-guns will run smooth without test firing a considerable number of rounds.

PS: 10.5 scores look-cool points, but you WILL see a difference in accuracy at 100, and it gets worse the further you go out. I strongly suggest 14 or longer, especially if it is your only one.

Wrong. Shorter barrels are inherently more accurate than longer ones. The issue is likely you. I jave no issue making good hits at 300 with a 10.5 and reddot and I'm not alone.

Short barrel for the cool factor first. Longer barrel later on when I decide to go for long range.

Ideally, I would prefer to keep it all and not let go of any of them
