looking for land

Hey guys,

New to this forum and new to calgary and love it so far.
I'm wondering where can I find crown land near calgary? weather it be an hour or 2 away from calgary. I want go shoot my rifles but don't want to go to a range unless if that's all there is. Coming from manitoba we would go to some pits on crown land and shoot there, no hassle no trouble. Is there any pits here like that?

So my question is where is there crown land that I can go shoot and hunt on?

The entire eastern slope is pretty much crown land. Buy the "Canadian Rockies Backroad Mapbook" remember that you cannot have a firearm in a wildland provincial park unless you have a hunting licence, you can never have a firearm in a provincial or national park. Other than that crownland is fair game. Keep in mind there are lots of hikers, quaders and equistrian activity out there. Ensure you have an adequate backstop at all times.

Generally travelling north on the forestry trunk road from the 1A will get you into a few spots suitable for shooting. Make sure you go far enough up the your are in the "green" zone. Buy the mapbook.

I'm out of town for the next 2 weeks but when I get back we can get together and I can show you a place to shoot. Prob about an hour from the city in the SW.
