Sloppy BHP

Tonight I noticed that my BHP becomes quite sloppy (loose trigger and slide) when the hammer is cocked and no mag is installed. If I install a loaded mag the slop goes away. With the no mag installed and the hammer down the slop goes away. Never noticed this before.

Very strange. None of my other autos do this.

Is this to be expected?

has your mag disconnect been removed....
don't know if this would make a difference or not ..... how loose and sloppy are we talking here ...... like glock sloppy!!!!!!! that would be bad I think ...
How old is the gun .....does it have a million rounds ,,,,or brand new ....
maby you broke something....
 
Mine is the tightest auto I have .
I got about 2000 med hot rounds through her .
id say mines just about perfectly broke in , and no worse for wear.
 
For the life of me cant even emagine it being worn out . the cdn forces are still using the john inglis hi powers since FN sent the blueprints here in WW2 .
 
Normal. I used to own two and they were all 'loose'. They were also very accurate with good barrels. Looseness = battlefield reliability.

I agree with this, I have an older one that I refinished and the slide with the hammer cocked is a little loose, My dad had a brand new MKIII and its the same, As for the trigger They both seem fine, I Have the mag disconnect removed in mine and it is a little more spongy than my dads but I still shoot just fine with it, Looseness = more room for functionality in muck and grime and peanut butter sandwiches, Just take the AK-47 for example
 
It's a 1977 manufacture. Has the mag disconnect removed. Looks to be practically new with low round count.

With the hammer cocked and no mag (or with an empty mag) you can see and feel the slide twitch when you stroke the trigger close to the break point. (If that makes any sense).

With the hammer cocked and no mag the slide rattles. It doesn't rattle with the hammer down.

With a loaded mag, the behavior is not nearly as evident.

The gun shoots well, nice trigger break, and haven't had any function issues etc etc.

Does yours do this?

This is normal on Browning Hi-Powers because of how they are built.
