Hello - recently disassembled my Rossi 92 in .38/.357 to clean it and swap a few parts. First time I had done this and the disassembly went fine. Swapped the parts, cleaned it and started putting it back together.

Reassembly went fine until putting in the lever. Not sure why but I can not get the lever back in properly. It keeps going in too far and it gets stuck behind the firing pin. What ends up happening is that the lever can not move properly so the bolt can not open. The lever should basically sit just in front of the firing pin but for me it keeps getting stuck under the firing pin.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? I know it is something I am doing wrong but can not figure the problem out. I have have worked on this for a while and even have Steve's Guns video on the 92. Unfortunately that video kind of goes quickly through the assembly part and the picture quality is not great.

Note that I am using an empty piece of brass to keep the ejector in the bolt for the assembly. I have researched this issue and there are other reports of similar problems but no proposed resolutions. Seems like in those cases, they just kept trying to reassemble it and it finally goes together or they just don't get a response.

Thanks in advance for any assistance or suggestions.

Best bet is search youtube for a video.

If you can't fine a Rossi 92 in .357 specifically, and Model 92 (Winny, etc.) should be fine.

Thanks - have already watched a dozen videos and sites on both the Rossi and Winchester. No luck whatsoever. I think I Am following the steps correctly but the lever still seems to get caught behind the back part of the firing pin assembly. Not sure what to do next on this one.

Rossi Model 92 Reassembly

Reassemble in the reverse order as taken down. Assembling the bolt, ejector, and lever can be a tough job. To get them back together:

Insert the assembled breechbolt into the receiver.
With the bolt in the open position, insert the lever.
Ensure the ejector is aligned properly, then close the bolt.
Press forward on the lever to seat it completely into the receiver.
Align the holes in the bolt and lever with the pin hole in the receiver and insert the bolt pin. A small tapered punch can help align the holes if need be.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Problem turned out that I was not pounding the lever pin far enough in and hence the lever and bolt could not open.
