You can try dropping in a new bolt, personally I would at least get a smith to check the headspace (unless you've already got a set of guages). Replacing the bolt on just about any firearm can result in headspace issues.

do I have moral grounds to expect the previous owner to fix this?

You made a purchase without warranty. Unless you can prove the previous owner knew it was defective you are pretty much SOL. Hazards of 2nd hand sales unfortunately. This is why I would never buy anything off the EE unless it was at a significant discount. Talking 25%+

I knew it!! Get out of my thread you scum bucket! Your redemption is undone! You were trying to get me to send you my rifle? You theif! Snake!!

Some one ban this newbtard

Relax there budy he actually gave you good advice( get it fixed under warranty. Call north sylva they sort it out for you) but since your crazy he decided to push as many buttons as possible during your meltdown. I can't really blame him it's a lot of fun you should try it some time.

And you have the feedback score to back that up. Touché.

Exactly. I buy new. Why pay retail + for someone's used, abused, ready to break stuff? Also, I want more firearms imported into this country. Buying second hand stifles imports. More guns than knives.

I'm not saying I would NEVER buy 2nd hand but it would have to be a pretty desparate situation or a ridiculously good deal. I havn't encountered this yet.

Wrong that guy and me have had it out in other threads and in pms before this thread, he follows me around. Unless you have called that number I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw a train. Also would you trust that movie arms sh!t he suggested? I wouldn't just from hollywoods track record for not knowing sweet sh!t all about guns. I checked out that website it says nothing about actual guns and it boasts a repertoire of ####ty movies...
